    Invercargill...so it gets cold aye?

Seems we have picked up a hefty contract that should hopefully see us through the recession which is fantastic news but as a bit of a kicker most of the company has to relocate to a Invercargill.

My personal involvement will be at least 3 months but may stretch out to 6 or even 9 months.

I'm told that for 3 months of the year its too damn cold to ride a bike? Anyone able to say that's true or not? is black ice a common occurrence?

My dilemma is whether I buy a bike down there to commute on and explore the country on weekends or take my current bike down and keep it locked out of sight and bring her out for the weekend rides, I can always take a work vehicle for commuting.

My preferred option is to buy another bike but that's reliant on being able to do enough riding over winter to make it viable.

    Inver's climate sux

    Its not that cold

    Dont usually get frost

Its just grey & cloudy all the time and wet & windy more often than not.

Much, much nicer 30km inland (Winton)

    It's the same as anywhere

There seems to be a misconception about the weather down here in the deep south. It doesn'nt rain as much as Auckland, not as windy as Wellington and Dunedin would have to have colder/darker/greyer weather. (No offense intended). Only had two cases on black ice last winter but apart from that fairly mild. Think it may be the greenhouse effect. In fact have heard will be the place to be weather wise in a few years.Yes you heard it here first.

i ride to class everyday, provided i dont have to pick up the kids at lunchtimes or anything.

i was born and raised down here, so i might just be used to the wind and rain ... but it still think its blown out of proportions by the rest of the country *shrug*
