Done? I have fitted a RF900 caliper to it. It hasn't made a significant improvement. I am using the pads that came with the caliper and I wonder if they have had oil spilt on them or something as my experience doesn't match what others report from the same upgrade.

Airhead fan here with some noob questions...
Essentially what are the major differences between a GS & 'normal' airhead?

Is it feasible to get an old airhead & change a few things to get it GS-ish or wait till a GS comes up for sale?

I'm looking for a future project bike that doesn't have to go up firebreaks etc just tootle around gravel roads, Porika etc & I like the basic look of the oldies.

    Thanks in advance.

engine and gearbox and even the frames are the same i think.the GS has long suspension and a bash plate plus the bigger tank(s).

The top mounting point for the rear shock is different on the GS, stronger design and slightly different location. Rear shock is longer and swing arm/diff mount is also different location I believe.

Front forks are longer, with one or 2 road model exceptions that are the same, usually the RT or ST. I suspect there may be some subtle motor differences as there's different carb settings and power outputs. The rest as far as I am aware is just cosmetic in regard to tanks, instruments, pegs etc.

I know for the earlier 'mono' swingarm G/S's the rear subframe is different. I have a spare G/S subframe hanging in the garage in case I ever want to do a road bike conversion.

Thanks Eddie. I'm officially now a Tosser (well don't own one just read about them). Went into GSers & lots of info in there. Are the drive shafts all the same length from RT ST to GS from Mono to para ?
