Is it a harley front? I thought it was a dunlop? Is it too narrow - is that what you mean?

If you can tell that I think you need to change your name to Anorak.

Hey, has anyone here had their cross laced wheels refinished? I'd really like to do mine in the near future.

Oh, and - good stuff, Padmei!

I had a special built by Woodys Wire Wheel Works in the USA. Used an 1100gs hubb laced to a R100GS rim with heavy duty stainless steel spokes. One day I will send the front over for a rebuild

    The $2000 O ring

. i am doing an oil change on schmidtty in the weeekend & wondered where to get a shim for spacing from the canister. I have read this thread from Anton L
    http://www.largiader.com/tech/filters/canister.html
    which explains it easily.
Are they common things - ie my local bike shop (not BMW agents) would be able to get them in? It may not need one but handy to have just in case.

Also what is their proper name? oil filter shim?

I have owned and serviced seven 2 valve twins since 1987, covering the gamut of all post 1980 filter arrangements and without any knowledge of this internet "$2000 O ring thing", until the internet came along, have never had a problem with a filter change. Buy the right OEM oil filter for the model of bike involved, ask for any gaskets that come with it (as shown on the dealer's parts fiche for your model) and just replace the bits that come out with their equivalent that came with the filter and replace any shim or other reuseable bit that came out in the same order. How did the bike make it this far if it had no oil pressure!
It is really easy, just put back what came out.
    Regards,

    Michael
Sh*t doesn't just "happen". There is always an a*sehole involved.

Some valid points there, Michael. But I wonder if the internet scaremongering isn't completely unfounded.

The theory seems to be that after many years and miles, the pressed in canister (in the airhead block) that houses the oil filter will move. That is, it backs in to the block, creating a gap around the o-ring.

This is only becoming apparent now, in these bikes' "advanced years." Which just so happens to coincide with this wonderful age of internet mis-information! Conspiracy!
