The neutral switch is just sticking. You could just try changing the gearbox oil before you replace it.
The switch is at the bottom (middle) of the gearbox, behind the rear engine mounts. An 'easy' way to get at it is to remove the rear engine mount studs, take out the engine spacer, & its behind that. Bit of a PITA to replace it though.

I think....
Everytime I go riding I seem to hear a new bloody noise. It wasn't till I met up with nutso (boxabits) & philthy phil that I realised the whirring hammering box of death sound is actually common.
, it rides nice and sounds great! Especially when I put the foot down. It growls....
