that was quite fun
a normal (but fun) gravel road leads to the Leatham Conservation Area. I went about 3k past this on an easy 4wd track before getting turned back by a possibly dicey river crossing (would be easy if you had help and/or weren't carrying too much gear).
Possibly the 4wd track goes up to 24km to Bottom Gordons Hut
could be worth a look for you top of south island wallahs
I think its well worth having. Cost $270 from tard me and costs $115US per year to use. It needs to have a clear view of the sky to transmit. I needed to push the "I'm OK' button more to make the track more 'followable'. I'll bring it on future rides so the 'stay at homes' can see what ere up too.

Actually I take everything back - yeah KNOWING you were down there cos of SPOT was jealousy inducing BUT those pics just make me salivate for a SI trip - looks awesome, and perfect for the KLR mate as you said in the report and sure am lookin forward to getting the DR down there!![]()
