    insurance?!

    Hi there,
it's me again, the little french temporary without bike. I would like to know how does it work with the insurance here. And according to you, how many $/year (26yo man, overseas full licence, without claims... clean) to insure an old sport bike like a 1000 FZR 1990 or something like that.

That would depend on how much you wanted to insure the bike for.

"Third Party" insurance (only covers damage you do to another vehicle) is quite cheap then gets dearer the more you want - fire and theft protection and how much the bike is worth/insured for etc
    Motorbike Camping for the win!

I've got full cover for a 97 bandit 600 for about $400 pa through swan insurance. Other insurers that come up a bit on this site are state and AMI.
Best bet is to give them a call and ask for a quote (just a quote, no obligation) for third party, third party fire and theft, and full cover - and go from there.

lolo170379, is it illegal not to have insurance in france like it is in UK?,

its not illegal to ride without it in NZ just make sure you dont hit anyone, OR leave the country before the insurance company gets their stuff together. then your fine
I only posted this because of the global economic crisis

in france it's illegal to drive any vehicule without insurance, and insurances are very very expensive, and there are many insurance rules for bike like: no sportbike before 25yo and at least 500cc 2 years insurance without trouble. And more, it's illegal to drive a bike over 100hp, every new bikes sold are at 100 or 106 hp maxi, you can modify the engine to gain the maxi power but if you hit somebody with, you should leave the contry. If you are under 21, your bike must be under 34hp, some rich guys under 21yo buy 600 sportbikes but with the engine at 34hp, what a pity. For my 1994 500 GSE, I paid $2600/year...

i forgot to mention that in France, bikes are quiet more expensive than here, and petrol price is x2. But there are many more shop and a bigger choice of bikes and equipement. I can't find Dainese suits and AGV helmets here.
