Angry KNOW WHAT PI##*S ME OFF?

Riding around Christchurch, getting stuck behind bloody big 4X4's & buses with me sucking in their clouds of dirty black diesel fumes, isnt there a law against excessive engine smoke coming from poorly tuned mobile chicanes??

Agreed. Why dont they have emission tests as part of wofs? (or do they?)
I guess they blame the quality of the fuel.

But they are more satisfying to overtake.

You need to get out of that hell hole and shift to Auckland, then you might change your mind about dirty diesels in ChCh.

People complain enough about the price of a WoF as it is - so when I have to buy an $8000 gas analyser and then a $5000 diesel smoke meter I wonder what they will have to say.If people complain loud enough then action is taken....and then they pay the price.

Any one here want to adjust my fuel pump, need more deisel, nothin like overfueling the Safari!

When son had his RG150 we used to put a little oil in the tank as well (on Nicko's advice when we bought it) anyway if those bloody Mercs etc used to piss him off at the lights he would just give a nice long rev while sitting there. Funny as hell Merc covered in white smoke... hehehe trouble is he used to do it to his mum as well. Not the way to impress her at all.

God I love the smell of diesel smoke first thing in the morning......NOT

Yay for the smaller towns where you know the dickhead who tried to kill you. You can go to their house and blow their letter box up
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Tell me about it. Went for a nice ride up Evans Pass yesterday evening, down Sumner Road and into Lyttelton and back through the tunnel. Upon entering the tunnel I encountered a big ass Discovery or some such vehicle that was billowing clouds of toxic fumes, had to back right off least I became asphyxiated.

Didn't want to get too carried away passing them upon exiting the tunnel as while I have done my 'Learners-Restricted' course the L plate stays on till I receive confirmation from Land Transport New Zealand

I recall when in Auckland a few years ago you could call 0800 SMOKEY ? and dob in these sorts of vehicles, was that a trial? is it still in place? (nation wide?)

(haven't learnt to use the cell phone and clutch at the same time yet )

Such a wonderful idea - yes it worked! And because it worked in 2006 all vehicles are now going to have an emmissions test....guess who's going to pay for it? - yes,YOU!

All because of a few smokey diesels,we talked about this on another thread...ALL diesels smoke,it's part of their design and you can't stop them doing it.Certainly a very few small Jap diesels smoke very bad, poor maintenance of course. It pisses me off that ALL vehicles will be lumbered with this test because of a few dirty ones...be carefull what you ask the Government for, they apply with a very big brush.

I recall when they first warned about this and said that (based on a random sample of vehicles they tested) if they'd applied it that day they'd have to ban over 50% of the vehicles on the road.

I gather that it means that in addition to taking a bigger hit in WOF fees to cover the cost of the testing gear, we'll all be having to get catalytic converters or such fitted to our vehicles (at our own expense, of course.)

I also noted a hue and cry from the importers saying "but that will drive the cost of the Jap Imports up" (mainly because they import cars that are fine except for the fact they were Red Stickered in Japan for failing emission tests.)

Maybe I should expedite my electric bike plans...
