I could not really give a toss on why your getting so upset over some storm in a tea cup. You clearly need to get a life mate.
However I liked reading through the netiquette and it looks like you need to also update yourself with it. Some of the rules are only there for you to follow if you feel like it?

Hi All,

Hopefully not, I have a copy of the PROPROSED 2006 emission tests/standard from some guvvernment website and the 'vehicle classes' covered ALL have four wheels (bikes are not part of the testing process)..so 2 smoke bikes should be ok..

..I checked it out before I got the KRR this year....

Ask an Aucklander about the brown cloud and you'll probably be told the city doesn't really have a smog problem because most days the wind blows it away. Tell an Aucklander that despite the wind, 253 citizens die earlier than they should each year because of traffic pollution and you'll get a blank stare - Jafa denial.

The 253 premature Aucklander deaths statistic comes from a wider study by Fisher and others - Health effects due to motor vehicle air pollution in New Zealand - for the Ministry of Transport in 2002.
The report estimates some 399 premature deaths occur nationally because of vehicle emissions. That's out of a total of 970 people "experiencing premature mortality" due to particulate pollution from all sources including burning and home heating

In Auckland the main culprit is vehicles - a moving target (as long as you're not driving in rush hour) that's much more difficult to control.

Which is where the next bunch of regulations - vehicle emission standards, coupled with improvements in the sulphur and benzene content of fuel - come into play. Compulsory in-service vehicle emission testing as part of the warrant of fitness is due to come into effect in the middle of 2006. Around the same time sulphur in diesel will be reduced down from the current 500 parts per million (ppm) to 50ppm.

In the interim Kuschel, who sees diesel particulate as her number one enemy, will continue to try to educate Aucklanders in denial. "The biggest problem in Auckland is the rise of the urban assault vehicle - the four-wheel-drive.

A lot are fuelled by diesel and the problem is that the particulate that comes from diesel exhausts is very carcinogenic - a thing called a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon which is in effect a whole pile of benzene rings. In theory it's more toxic than dioxin."

Yeah, what they refer to 4mix engines are becoming bigger each year, especially in the US. Its better on emissions as it burns the fuel more completely. They have modified alot of chainsaws to burn more cleanly by restricting the exhaust to get a hotter burn, but it tends to just reduce their operational life by causing excessive heat on the piston and cylinder. We will be seeing alot more 4 mix equipment in the near future.

So what do we do about it in the mean time? I spend a fair bit of time on the motorway trying to pick my spot to go between trucks and have wondered about the fumes I breathe in in the mean time. Now that i know some truckies are trying to gas me, would some sort of breathe mask help filter the nasties effectively?
incidentally, your 'narrow gap' on the XR probably isn't everyone elses Jackrat. A learner is pretty unlikely to think they can get through a smaller gap than a more experienced rider. (of course, if they're stupid enough to try and get through REALLY small gaps when learning to ride then blowing smoke isn't going to save them for long so why bother?).

As you go to pass, change down a gear and power past the vehicle. Oh and dont forget to hold your breath. I know alot of truck drivers and I know of not one that would want to "gas" a rider. Paranoia?

The reason I bother,is that I don't want to see another lump of chewed up meat on the motorway.
I want to be part of it even less.
