[So what do we do about it in the mean time? I spend a fair bit of time on the motorway trying to pick my spot to go between trucks and have wondered about the fumes I breathe in in the mean time. Now that i know some truckies are trying to gas me, would some sort of breathe mask help filter the nasties effectively?]
At one time there were a couple of motorbike mask options available here in NZ.I cant recall the brands but one I remember seeing overseas was made by Lazer. It was A cool,camo HELMET with a flip down dark tinted bubble facesheild & looked like jet fighter pilot Top Gun style KIT complete with what looked like a seperate oxygen mask to FILTER OUT SMOG ETC.

You could just wear a standard dust mask, or any of the many different motorcycle designs around.
