Want to do Adv Riding for a Job?

    Just a thought.

You want to ride. But you need money too.

What if you could get PAID to RIDE. With someone else's bike?

    Dream come true?

What if explosives, weapons, and leadership training was thrown into the mix?

1 Logistics Company, the Territorial Force Logistics unit in Auckland is currently in a recruiting drive, and is looking for people who love anything with wheels. (For all those not in Auckland, yes, the other units in other places are looking too.)

You'll go through infantry training that will see you at the level to operate as a rifleman in an infantry section. After your first weekend (an introduction to the Army), you are posted to 1 Logistics Company, where you are paid to do Driver Training (gaining all licence classes as fast as the system and your learning capability allows).

In this driver training, motorcycle training is included. If you already have a certain license in an area, you will be trained in the more 'military' applications of that vehicle (while gaining licenses for other vehicle types).

For instance, if you already have your full motorbike license, you would be fast tracked for the Army Motorbike Course (a week long intensive Adv Riding Clinic, where you get paid.)

Entry requirements? Be in fairly good shape (the army will take care of the rest). No age limits, no size limits.

In other areas, you'll be given leadership training, NZQA management qualifications, and become part of one of the most extensive social nets in New Zealand.

If you want to know more, PM me, and I can give you even more tantilising info.

And yes, this is a shameless plug. Give it serious thought though. With the sight of so many jobs becoming unsecure/unavailable, this is a part time job that can give you that extra income/stability that we all desire.

Well done. Yes. I'm in the game.

Only people who do road building within the Army are the engineers. And not the part time ones either.

However, if you want to train to blow-up / mine / disrupt roads, then part time engineers would be for you.

Of course, if you were wanting a complete change from your day job, there's always the other corps... like infantry, medics, signals, artillery... gets you away from the cab!

been there done that...different country..same shit.

Being in the armed forces ultimately prepares you for warfare..
Are you realy prepared to shoot and get shot at?

hard to imagine from behind your keyboards......

    Think hard
    Think again

Ultimately. Yes. It is designed to prepare you for warfare, but in this day and age, not just the classic total spectrum war scenario.

Will the NZ Army be required in a total spectrum war scenario in the current global climate? Probably not.

Most common use for armed forces today is peacemaking/peacekeeping/rebuilding. This is especially true for the Territorials (see Solomons, East Timor, Sinai etc.) So instead of being a part of the problem, armed forces of the developed world are a key part of the solution.

Think hard. Research Current Affairs. Think again.

No uuper age limits. Minimum age is 17.

Time away depends on how much you want to train. Minimum 20 days a year.
Basic Training is 2 weekends, and 2 block courses of 2 weeks. Generally speaking you have the first 1-2 years to complete your basic training.

Fitness levels - in generally good shape. ie. can run 2.4km in 12 minutes (entry level). Basic Training takes care of the rest.

Mate the army bored the shit out of me...sorry to say. Despite being Army Engineers and a Cat A dml instr and a constr diving supervisor the "good shit" was few and far between. Well it wasnt that bad, but still. anyways I get more of a kick riding adv on the weekend than I do remniscing on warry good times. Guess it comes down to training for warfare vs making it through reality - carrying enough gas, making timings, enough food, carrying the right gear. A lot of the same principles apply.

Anyway, 11 years of bitterness off my chest , no complaints about joining the services, and to be fair it would be a fricken good adventure for someone coming in off the street. In fact I'm now territorials myself so good pocket money on the weekends, good break from the daily 9-5 and good opportunities along the way. Infact, anyone in Nelson or Blenheim PM me for a bit of a yippee with some rifles next weekend.

There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

Sorry but the idea of trying to outrun a uteload of crazed Taliban on a KLR250 is somewhat unappealing.

Start issuing KTMs like some of the euro armed forces & you might get a few more starters from the adv community

    Cheers
    Clint

clint you gotta be hard as nails to ride KTM in the army - only 1 NZ SAS has KTMs for the outriders...

    Can understand that!

The regular force has it's dull moments...

Good thing about the TF, it comes in short, concentrated weekends, and on Sunday, you can think 'back to the office tommorow!'
