    Adventure riding & the recession

Okay its not limited to adventure riding but thats the section i post the most in so here goes

Tell us how the recession has affected your riding ativities.

For myself my salary is made up of a base and % of profit, so for the last 8 months i have been earning abouts 2/3rds what i normally earn.

My biggest motorcyling cutback has been not updating my MX bike which is now 3 years old.

I have been buying budget brand tyres off trade me ( dont seem to get much less wear out of them than expensive ones ) i take my lunch with me on ADV rides instead of buying it at cafe`s.

And no farkling on the bikes, still trying to ride as much as i can but just doing it on the cheap.
My riding gear is getting a bit worn out but will have to go another round yet.

I know there are others out there who have lost their jobs or had their hours at work cut , so whats your story
Here for a good time, not necessarily a long time

just traded up and hope like hell I don't find myself having to sell it in 6 months time. Not new, but better bike.

Have a backup plan on the job front too incase my current one is cut.
There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

Well my work situation has gone down the pan due to the world financial turmoil/recession and am lookin for extra/new job now, BUT I'll sell the car and get an older/cheaper one before I sell my new DR for darn sure! Shame I need the car really, but got 2 kids age 3 & 5 so wot ya gonna do!

Funny but I've started to think more like Mark now = do I really need the D606's when there's cheaper options for tyres?

Still the recession thing has at least got me off my arse to get rid of stuff on TM I should've sold ages ago!

My one big vice is coffee, so yeah maybe i'll start being sensible and doin the sandwiches thing more often than I have out on rides, but good coffee mmmmm not ready to give that up yet(maybe have few less cups or cut down from bowl lattes though!).
    Cheers, Dave

being self employed the recession means I have more time to go riding but sooner or later I will suffer the consequences of that and have less money to go riding with.

    Greggs Essspresssso...

I'm finding I'll have to stick with my old race bike too.
But as it's 30 years old this year that's not a problem

i have been told i wont be getting any more overtime or sixth day - that suits me since i never had time to ride. now i will have the whole weekend free in 3 more weeks

down side is less money - just had to buy new bike back tyre, 2 for the car, 2 reg and now my dr350s stator has died. 3 bikes and 2 cars may get a bit too much for my partner and i so i might have to get rid of her civic

my new vmax will be put on hold for another decade or two and it will take a bit longer to pay off my girlfriend and daughters overseas trip but at least i made the most of my overtime while i could - now i have time to play

my boarder lost her job and owes us $750 so times are tough for her. will get tougher when she stops avoiding us and comes back to get her stuff...

Recession, what Recession!!! but seriously, it has afected the number of hours, and amount of cash I have available for riding. Have gone to cheaper brands for rear tyres. Am working more hours at my main job, as a part time Business I own isn't producing the income that it was. The other hole in my budget is a teenager who wants to go on a school trip to Japan, Hence no full weekend rides for me at the moment.

Dave any coffee is fine as long as it is on special, except for the real cheap brands

I'm still busy at work (electrician) and havent got time for a recession, but Dawns work has been quiet since Xmas and work has been coming in dribs and drabs. We were wondering if we could still afford to go to the Sth Island but are going anyway. I figure if we dont go then that just fuels the fire as the money we would have spent on accom. food, ferry crossing etc is needed to keep everybody else employed.
Anyway, I would have been really shitty if couldnt get a Sth Island ride in before winter !!!!

Funny you should mention this as i was thinkin of starting a thread on ways to do things on the cheap re adv riding etc.

so far the recession hasn,t impacted on me personally, but it is in the back of my mind and anything I buy now i think long and hard about but then think that will not help the recession at all if i tighten up.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
