Do any Auckland riders remember "Gunnit hill"?

Another thread reminded me of some of the shenanigins we used to get up to as pimply faced yoofs.
Just wondering if anyone remembers racing on "gunnit" hill back in the mid to late eightys.
I lost interest when guys started turning up with bikes in vans n stuff.
    Anyone else remember it?

Way back in the awd days the southern motorway ended at the bombay hills. There was/is an AA station there.
A bunch of us used to meet up there about midnight. and have drag races back down the straight bit of motorway towards town. The whole idea was to see just how fast we could go.
Trouble was eventually the cars started turnin up then the cops got wind

Kids stuff - I was an old man then with kids and building a house.

The first motorway went from Penrose to Redoubt Rd,that was it.An uncle of mine was heading one of the companies building it - my mothers always used to give him heaps about cutting up good farm land to make a road.
