Bit of a shame he couldn't take a championship before leaving the FIM. He basically had it two years in a row and was by far the best rider on the ciruit but it seems the competition has stepped up their game this year and he hasn't really had the steam to smash em like he has done in the past. None the less like Rick said, 6th equal in the world is pretty damn good (not counting the Yanks)

Haha!! A racer is never happy with even second!! LOL!!! There's two places in racing first or nowhere!
I dunno if thats how Josh feels but deep down most racers want to win everything LOL!!!
When he's not involved anymore he will appreciate his achievements if he doesn't already, I reckon! He's still a legend!
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

    and more from harold...

"New Zealand rider Josh Coppins dropped one place to sixth overall in the world MX1 motocross championship despite two strong rides in the Netherlands this morning (NZ time).

Coppins was fourth in the first race of the Grand Prix at Lierop and second in the second.

However, both races were won by Belgian Ken de Dycker, who leapfrogged the Yamaha rider from Motueka in the series standings.

The leading positions remain unchanged after 14 of 15 rounds, with Italian Antonio Cairoli holding a healthy lead over German Max Nagl.

The final round is in Brazil on September 13."

I'd like to see him have a testimonial type year where he just rides for fun.

A more struggling team should jump on the chance.

Tough to know, but I suspect he'd be tempted to have one last shot, only he really knows how his body is holding up, but the race results would suggest he's improving as the season goes on.
I'm hoping he does give it one more crack personally.

    yeh me too!
I don't quite know why people have to retire while at the top??
No shame in slowly winding down the ranks same as you had to climb up them when you came in! I suppose life in reality doesn't quite work that way though LOL!!!

CANELINHA (BRAZIL), 12 September 2009 – The final round of the 2009 FIM Motocross World Championship was hit by heavy rain which made the event management cancel the Saturday program in order to preserve the track conditions for tomorrow’s Honda GP of Brazil.
