Josh Coppins shows good speed in Nismes
Yamaha Monster Energy racer, Josh Coppins, has taken part in Round 3 of the 6 round Belgian Championship today, held on the hard pack circuit of Nismes in the very South of the country.
In the first of the three short motos, ‘Lizzard’ got a flyer out the gates, accelerating his Yamaha YZ450FM towards the first turn alongside Belgian favourites, Desalle and De Dycker. Dropping down the hill and into turn 2, the New Zealander out braked himself, running wide and losing a handful of positions. Coppins soon got into his rhythm though and before long was charging through to try and catch the leaders. At this stage it was De Dycker out front being hounded by Desalle with Ramon a little further back in 3rd place. Coppins caught and managed to pass Ramon, but moments later made a mistake allowing Ramon back past. For the final laps Coppins charged hard but was not able to re-pass Ramon again and crossed the line in 4th place.
In the 2nd moto it was not a good start for Coppins as he head through the first turn around mid pack. Quickly getting through most of the pack on the opening laps Coppins soon sat in 4th place with a charging Ramon not far off in 5th. Lap after lap Coppins and Ramon battled it out, but towards the end of the race the extreme fitness of Coppins started to pay off, and he managed to get a small gap on Ramon. On the final lap the Yamaha Monster Energy rider was able to go one better as he made his move into 3rd place, where he crossed the line.
In the final moto of the day Coppins had a great jump out the gate, but was hit by another rider going through turn two which left the disappointed ‘Kiwi’ on the floor. Getting back up and on the gas Coppins screamed his way through the field, posting some blistering lap times on his way back through to 5th place, where he crossed the finish line.
“My riding was good today, I was very fast on the bike, I just had bad starts. The way I am riding right now I know if I get the start I have the speed and fitness to run up front. I’ll be focusing on my sand riding leading up to Lommel and look forward to getting a good result close to home.” commented Coppins.

Good results.
Should help with his mindset for the big races.
Long time between drinks - Belgium this weekend.

EDIT: So from what I gathered (I had laptop on while i was in bed and was kinda dozing off haha) he got 10th in the 2nd moto which put in him 6th overall for the weekend. My video stream was useless and kept pausing for some reason.

Coppins salvages a 6th overall in Lommel GP
New Zealand’s Grand Prix motocross star, Josh Coppins, only had to make a short drive down the road from his Belgian home this weekend to take part in Round 12 of the MX1 World Championship. Having always been a strong ‘sand’ rider, Coppins was looking forward to this GP of Limburg, held at Lommel’s notoriously rough sand circuit.
Saturday’s qualifying race was very good for ‘Lizzard’ as he powered his Yamaha YZ450FM through from 7th on lap one up to 3rd position by the end of the 20 minute and 2 lap race.
In the opening 35 minute and 2 lap moto on Sunday, Coppins was just inside the top 10 exiting the first corner, however the Kiwi was on a charge and wasted no time in getting past the competition lap after lap. Riding a superb race from beginning to end, Coppins pulled all the way through to finish the long race in 4th position.
Moto 2 was unfortunately not as good a result for Coppins. After getting a good jump out the gate, the Yamaha rider was taken down in a 3rd corner collision involving a number of riders. Quickly re-mounting and setting charge on the pack ‘Lizzard’ had his work cut out if he wanted to salvage a good number of points. The experienced GP racer pushed his Yamaha to the limit as he sliced his way back through the elite pack. In superb style, Coppins climbed back up the lap charts to cross the finish line in 7th position, awarding him a 6th overall for the day.
“Saturday’s qualifying went quite well for me so I expected a decent result today. We were a little off the mark with the bike setup in the first race due to the rain and change of conditions which means I spent a lot of energy fighting the bike as it was. Desalle crashed in front of me on the start and then I got hit from behind so started the race in last and worked my up to 7th. This is definitely not the track where you want to come from behind so it physically tough. Considering the two tough races I had I’m pretty happy with the overall result.” commented Coppins.
This coming weekend Josh Coppins and the Yamaha Monster Energy Team are due to head to Loket in the Czech Republic for the 13th round of the 15

Coppins strong in Czech Republic:
Kiwi motocross star, Josh Coppins, has put in a strong result at round 13 of the 15 round FIM Motocross World championship series held at the picturesque circuit of Loket in the Czech Republic.
Lizard wasted no time in settling into a good rhythm and pace on the very fast, hillside circuit as he clocked fast lap times almost immediately in the Saturday morning practice sessions. In the Qualifying race Coppins got caught up in turn one, dropping his bike and needing to re-mount. Back in 30th position, Coppins raced hard to claw his way back through the pack in the short race, crossing the finish line in 13th, salvaging a reasonable gate pick for Sunday.
A good start in race 1 saw Coppins position himself into a podium position when he capitalized on an error by Belgian giant Ken De Dycker. With David Philippaerts and South African Gareth Swanepoel hot on his heels, Coppins had to protect his lines as his Italian team-mate tried everything he could to put a wheel in front of the Kiwi. Philippaerts eventually made a move stick and Coppins chased him to the chequered flag for 4th spot.
Race 2 would leave Coppins with quite a bit of work to do as he missed his start and was placed down the field. Finding some great lines and passing places, Coppins quickly moved past the likes of De Dycker, Ramon and Swanepoel. As the other riders started to tire, Coppins got faster and set his fastest time of the race with five minutes to go. He shut down Nagl in a last lap attempt to relegate the German but Nagl held on with Coppins finishing 5th.
"A tough day at the office. I rode pretty well and it got off to a good start. I had a decent battle with David there for a while, he passed me, made a mistake and I could get him back and finished fourth by the line. I was away really well in the second moto but Nagl hit me hard on the first corner. I got roosted and my tear-offs were rubbish from that point. I did the best I could to fight back but the goggle lens popped out and I was getting dirt and dust in my vision all the time. Overall I felt I performed OK here but just missed a break to get a better overall result." commented the Kiwi.
Coppins is set to race round 4 of the Belgian championship in Balen-Mol next weekend before heading to Lierop on the 29-30 August for the penultimate round of the world championship series.

Thanks Denhill for those of us without time to keep updated your posts are much appreciated!!! Bling on its way!
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!
'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '
Thanks mate. But I'm going to be AWOL till late September. Touring E/Europe. By car - bugger it.........
So I'm not sulking 'cos Josh is not doing as well as we thought.........
Looks like Josh is going to find it difficult to improve too much in this, his last season. If it is his last season?
