Master cylinder seal

Had a bit of a tumble half way through the A loop at Thunder X on the weekend which resulted in the front brake giving up on me(man you don't realise how much you need it until you aint got it)....ivé taken the master cylinder apart and one of the seals has a hole in it.......so my question is,can i just get a replacement seal?i know you can get a rebuild kit but that has replacement parts for all the internals and i don't really need a full kit

Remove the seal and take it in to a seal/bearing place and see if they have something available.

Well i'm a bitter and twisted man....hav'nt had any luck finding a seal on it's own so had to bite the bullet and buy a complete kit.
$30 got me the seal i need plus another seal,a spring,and a piston....which i don't need,ah well i'm sure once i'm on the bike i'll soon forget about it.......

I put hydraulic clutch fluid in my rear brake last weekend cos i had nothing else at hand. it worked all day but as soon as i went to replace it with dot4 it wouldn't bleed. All the rubber has swollen up and gone all chubby. So that's a warning to KTM owners... don't use your clutch fluid as brake fluid. Those Austrian twats are clever but so fucking backwards in the way they do some things, they have to make everything as complicated as possible. Who the hell uses mineral oil based hydraulic fluid these days? anyone know why they do this?

I'm quite worried about what the price'll be for a brembo seal kit... uh oh

I dread to think what it'll be mate.....yeah i know 30 bucks won't break the bank.....i spend money hand over fist on riding anyway.....it just grates me that i couldn't get just one seal......

it didn't turn out toooo bad for me but still a big waste of money for an impatient boy who wouldn't go to the service station and get the proper brake fluid. Was 140 bucks all up for all seals in rear caliper and master cyl from KTM (brembo parts) and they arrived overnight.

Hang on a sec', don't blame KTM!! Your mistake is unusual, as most people are much more likely to have brake fluid kicking around rather than plain mineral oil.

You should thank them for NOT using hygroscopic fluid in the clutch. That mineral oil can be just about anything cheap: baby oil is a common choice. The clutch system is probably cheaper for not having brake fluid compatible components. The stresses from the braking system just aren't there, so they use something cheaper, simpler, ie more appropriate. It doesn't need changing regularly like brake fluid, either, so the servicing costs are lower.

I'd rather get baby oil on me (and the paintwork) than brake fluid...
