make sure no one is left behind or gets lost.

vote for corner man......1 for me
I think the vote is split between those that did the KCAR ride & those that didn't.

On the KCAR ride we had a large group, with riders of varying abilities. The overall pace of the ride was reasonably quick, given the ground we had to cover. I know I had no clue where we were about 1/2 the time. W/O the corner-man system we would have lost people through out the day, which in itself would have caused delays.

My vote is for this system that works very well in large groups.

Cell coverage will be patchy at best where you guys are going.

I'm considering grabbing a bike and nipping up to Reefton Friday night for Big River Saturday.

last time I was up big river I got a call from work and it was clear as a bell. That was telecom, and it was on a high part of the ride.

Cornerman sounds ok to me, as long as I am not tail end charlie. Do not follow well.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

I vote for the Cornerman system, it just works.

Knowing that Joe will be Tail End Charlie means you can chill on your corner until you see his smiling mug.

Much better than tryng to guestimate was that no. 13 or 15 bike going past while you're having a piss? Must have been 15 cause no-one could be this far behind so I'm off. Unless they also stopped for a piss, put a jacket on etc.

And polite overtaking is the norm - but no 15 inch roosts

Hey, I'll go with the flow - some of you guys have done a helluva lot more large group rides than I have and I respect your experience, so whatever you reckon is fine by me!

    Cheers, Dave

Padmei needs a bit of string tied to the bike in front.

    Even that's not enough sometimes...

Note that when I traversed this, downhill and two up on my Dakar 650 in late 2007, we just got off and I walked the bike down the hard bit in first gear with the engine off. Anybody with concerns should remember this is always an option for difficult downhills, you don't have to be a "hero" and ride it down. I am certainly not and I use this approach a lot, even on the Pampera sometimes. The rest of the Porika Track is straightforward with great views and the loop is well worth doing.

Sh*t doesn't just "happen". There is always an a*sehole involved.
