$30 last week at ANZA here in Palmerston North, and that was for a Harley which as everyone knows costs twice as much for everything compared to any other bike.

    $28 for me too

The process took no less than 10 minutes.

At the local bike shop $40 and it gets done. At VTNZ Kingsland $32 and it takes about 3 bloody weeks.

    VTNZ goes like this.

Bowl in, park the bike in the cue.

Go to the counter and cue.

Get to the front of the cue where you get told, sorry our motorcycle warrant guy doesn't work (Thursday afternoon - can't remember which afternoon he doesn't work exactly but they should stick up a sign), you'll have to come back.

Go out hop on bike and leave.

Come back to VTNZ Kingsland on anything but the part day he's off or lunchtime.

Park the bike in the cue.

Go inside and cue for over 20 minutes to be told.

I'm sorry our motorcycle warrant guy isn't in this morning. You'll have to come back.

FFS, you told me last week he's only away Thursday avo.

Yes, but he's away this morning as well.

Well will he be here next time I come.

Yes, he's only away at lunchtime and Thursday avo.

I add... "and he's away now".

The funny thing is VTNZ are running all these ads to tell you how wonderful they are but they're a government department of old in disguise.

    ______________________________

So I finally return and you guessed it... the clown is away again. So this other dude does it. And he keeps trying to turn my back wheel, then pulls the clutch lever in and out then goes back to the wheel then to the clutch lever and after a few goes calls me over.

VTNZ Guy "Does this (rear) wheel normally turn or does it stop when you turn the bike off?".

Me "It turns but you have to have it in neutral"

VTNZ Guy "I've been doing the clutch but it doesn't move"

Me "You have to pull the clutch in and move the gear lever to neutral"

    VTNZ "Can you do that"

    Me "Yes" and I do.

Finally the test all done he hops on it and I can tell straight off the guy isn't a rider. As if I didn't know before. He's playing with all the switches on the right hand handle. And I know he's wanting to start the bike and has no idea. He's finally got the key on and calls me over again.

VTNZ Guy "How do you start it?"

To his credit he had been pressing the start button.

Me "This lever under the start button is a kill switch. You have to turn it on first"

He kicks my bike into life, puts it in first and rides off in the most shakey style he can manage. I look on in horror half wanting to run after him and stop him before he hurts the bike, half wanting to run beside him to catch the bike if he continues. I'm standing there frozen in utter shock as he completes what must be a learners circuit of the neighbouring petrol station forecourt with no helmet on.

That would have been the longest two minutes of my life.

Would I ever take a motorcycle to VTNZ Kingsland again. F Off. Not till they sort out getting someone who can test the bike when you turn up. And someone who can ride a bike.

A box of beer from my mate, and I always get at least 1 beer back.

If it`s for the cage, I take my Mrs , and it`s still a box , but this time she drives home. More than 1 beer back.

    A win-win me reckons.

If I take my bike to a place where someone who does not even know how to start it wants to ride it, then there is only one way that will happen. OVER MY DEAD BODY.

I would go someplace else for the WOF...
