    hi there.
im trying to find the best simple design, for soft bags, the can be placed on and off when needed.
once i find the best option for the bike.
ill take the design to the enginer shop and they will make it at a mere 1/4 the shelf price.

if you like the idea, easy to wip up two,
as looks like we got same bikes.
just give you an idea of there work, they made mine and paladins alloy skid plate, made my alloy tank brakets, and mountings.

If this looks good I might be up for ordering one too Joe, money allowing. Your mate certainly made great skid plates for us, I'm well impressed!

Yeah kinda lucky for me DR's are pretty resilient to punishment!

Still can't believe the tank is blemish free - how did I manage to not scratch it at least with that whole bike flip episode?
Stop Dave - mustn't tempt fate!

I made as near a copy to these http://www.andystrapz.com/ (i used to do that stuff in a previous life) and bent up some stainless rod , about 8mm I think and welded with ss electrodes . un ob trusive and effective as it keeps the bags off the hot an moving bits.
I think the canvas ones are more forgiving in an arse off and I can carry a couple of doz cans in each side

    I bought the Givi racks.
At $195-odd they were cheap enough and offered great crash protection.

I made these for the KLR but wouldn't be too hard to make something similar for the DR - square tube frame, attaches to pillion footrest mount and standard rack, bags are cheap knock-offs of Pelicans, bought from Bunnings $99 each. The bags attach to the racks at the bottom with two capscres through a keyhole slot, and at the top with R clips. The right side one took a minor spill without damage and it kept the resto of the bike clear of the ground
