Had a rack but found it was not necessary with the saddle bags. They just sat there real nice like and did not detract from the look...
Did you see the pannier rails on this DR? Similar to the Andy Strapz ideas. Wonder if this is a Ventura off the shelf product? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-210781840.htm.

Welll, last weekend was our wedding anniversary, BUT the mother-in-law came for a visit & disrupted plans. This weekend we've packed katherine off to MASTERTON, so I'm under pressure to stay here & do some things with my wife.![]()
..............So thats a definite maybe then.... I've asked her nicely but...........
Did see the KTM racks & yes, has definitely sparked some ideas. Not so good at tube bending though (the last few attempts collapsed). Not keen on the weight of bar.
Cheers
Steve
You can get a few ideas off this site too http://www.dbzproducts.com/
You'll have to do something to protect the back of the right side panel before you go anywhere with bags, wether its a rack or just a supporting bar. Seen a few examples of melted side cover from those who just hung throw overs on with out any prep.
On my DR I just copied the bar that Farque had on his old DR to stop the pipe and panel meeting under the weight of the bags. The throw overs might still scuff the plastic a little on long bumpy dusty trips, but my panels already look used so I never worried about it.
There was a discussion on the topic a few years ago. Might take a bit of searching to find though.

Happen to know the owner of that DR. Those were home-made by him, copied off mine which was on my DR when I bought it. Ventura sticker added to make them look like a pro job ... worked by the looks of it.
Haven't got pics of mine with me at the mo - will take some this arvo & stick them on here. Stays on permanently & the copied set was easy to make according to him.
Did you see the ones Bartman10 made for himself and Fraggle before their Russia trip http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=39661
Cheers
Merv
