    Cruisers /m50/m90 and filtering

Posted in general but 40 views and no response yet

How are middleweight cruisers for filtering in city traffic? Liking the m50 and m90 but 90% of my riding will be commuting to work in town and the little ninja is pretty good for that. I know it wont be as nimble, but still doable?

I wanna keep my next bike for awhile, so wondering if the m50 might be a little docile, would going straight from 250 to m90 be overkill?

m50 is at a pretty sweet price point though

    Thanks

You're asking questions that only you can answer.

You're best bet is to test ride both bikes twice.

Once on a weekend to see if it pushes the emotional response buttons and secondly during late afternoon traffic peak to see how they cope as commuters.

Personally I'd just buy the one I liked and make it fit whatever hole I chose to put it in. So to speak.

i lknow where you are coming from, but still unsure if a test ride would be enough..would probably take a couple of weeks to get used to it...anything would be awesome after a 250

Anyone purchased an 800cc and regretted not having more power a couple of months down the track?

You're asking questions only you can answer. You can read yourself stupid, ask a million questions, and you still won't know until you try. Get out there and ride some bikes and make a decision.

biggest problem you will have is the wieght of the bike,i went from sports bike to cruiser, gotta always remember the size of the bike, also forward foot controls, how many times i flipped the footpegs up on the tarmac when cornering, and from standstill to turning sharp,u cant just lean and crank the throttle, james deuce is right, you gotta test ride, see if it right for you

Twice the length from the middle to one end.

I filter every day from Stanmore Bay to Auckland centre (38 k's one way) and I find that the M50 is perfect for it, it has plenty of oomph when you need it, lets face it how fast do you really need to go when you are on the motorway? If you are looking for a commuter then I would recommend the M50, but if money is no object then go for the 109, it's a beautiful bike and if you do ride you will probably get hooked, just figure out your finances, costs per k, service costs etc etc.

Ride both and see for yourself, good luck, have fun and let us know how you go.

M50 is one of the best cruisers for filtering, light, not too wide and quick. I loved commuting on the 800, the C90 is another story, at nearly 320kg it doesnt make the easiest bike to split with, but it can certainly be done,
only one wayto find out if its the one for you, go ride em both, in heavy traffic (if thats what you will be doing a lot of), my choice for a commuter is the m50, and the C90 is just the best there is for long distance cruising.
    But then Im biased

My M50 is a piece of cake to ride around town.... open road lots of torque likes to sit at about 100 -110 kmh... go for it.

Light, nimble and enough power to run with the big boys

They are not particularly wide vehicles except for the handlebars. Which are about car mirror height.

Good slow speed stability, unstressed torquey engine and good comfort.

Edit - my bad you said M series not C - already have narrower bars on risers.

So which one has the narrower bars? The C50 or the M50? I've decided to get an M50 when I upgrade but I still need to commute everyday down the motorway... not good on a wide bike!

Is yours that yellow/gold and black one? It looks nice! You often pass my C50T.

The C50T bars/mirrors are at just the right height to clip car mirrors and are fairly wide, so I'm a bit more cautious when splitting. If the above is correct, Outlawtorn passes me regularly and I always pull aside and let him and other bikes past. Having said that, I have no real issues splitting and are not much slower through traffic than the narrower bikes.

You'd have to be on a GoldWing or something before splitting becomes a real issue...

Well yes I do know M50 owner who have said that the unit is severely underpowered. He went back to Colemans and upgraded to an M109.

Now he says he has loads of incredible power however the clutch is far too stiff and unformfortable for stop/start commuting.

He says that stability is good however the M109 is too large for lane splitting.
