    Paladin Update!

    Hi Guys!

Ok so I am guessing that to regulars I have been conspicuously absent from this forum.....

Tonight is the first night I have felt like I am not in some surreal place, well mostly! I now realise I have actually been in shock from Sunday thru to today, as i just read thru the thread and there's a couple of posts I have no recollection of typing!

So, although it would be an epic to respond to every comment, please forgive me for just typing one general post!

Firstly can I now reiterate how much it meant to me that within a few hours I had offers from 3 of my mates on here to help fix my bike on Monday, it meant alot guys, thx! Also the texts of support and checking I was ok were really thoughtful - man you start to realise what good mates are all about and certainly backs up one of the reasons I moved here from the UK - Kiwis are awesome people! I have already found out that I have received at least 2 texts that I have absolutely no recollection of receiving and have read & deleted and have no memory or it! If anyone sent me a text I did not respond to please accept my apologies but as said above I now realise that i was suffering from shock in a big way - according to a very close friend who is a nurse and my doctor! Unfortunately the doctor visit 5pm Tuesday i think added to the shock/trauma - he had me take in my helmet and printed copies of the photos on here - he said I may have 2 fractures in my back but poss ligament damage - will find out Thursday after x-rays at 11am - its minor, probs not discs but the little boney things that stick out from your spine whatever they are called, but just needs checking. The rest is as I suspected and muscular trauma. The additional shock thing was that he is luckily a specialist in accident trauma and he said based on what I remember of the accident and my description that he couldn't believe I didn't at the very least break my neck and if he hadn't seen me and had that accident explained he would've been expecting to see a patient with at least a broken neck! This hit me VERY hard I think!
Anyway, as you know Howie & I have done much of the work to repair the bike, I've bought the new indicators, sorted insurance claim, ordered new helmet etc etc, just waiting for that x-ray tomorrow to see where I go next!

DEFINITELY realise that I need to curb my enthusiasm and inbuilt need to challenge myself with a tad more care to riding to the terrain and within safe limits for my experience - just to think a bit more carefully about how far I am pushing that envelope! I have 2 young daughters and they need their dad!

The more I think about it, the more I realise what an awesome bunch of blokes/mates I get to ride with and want you guys to know how much you mean to me and what your support, encouragement and concern has meant to me through both trying to improve my riding and through this major accident and my reflection on the whole incident! MASSIVE THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!

Just some tidbits: Yeah have alrady been looking at body armour and neck supports and I am buying an even more highly rated helmet to replace the SHOEI with even tho that one may have saved my life/neck! Definitely have the lesson learned re how I am riding but nonetheless will of course still want to challenge myself to improve but hopefully in a bit more sensible manner!

Have fingers crossed all will be well for the KCR, we shall see. Definitely on rest this coming weekend tho!

See you guys all VERY soon and THANK YOU!

    Cheers, Dave

I hope you make it to the KCR, I look forward to a re-enactment (off bike, over beers) of your crash. Thinking of scary story around the campfire, but off road bin style.

Oh I'm sure I can do that - better laugh or I'd just cry as what could've happened is such a scary thought! But got it sorted in my head - which is what needed to happen and thank f*ck I am basically ok.

Hope to see you there mate!
    Cheers, Dave

Jim well done with the video work. And top marks to your apprentice who filmed you doing the steep downhill.

Dave what was your diagnosis at hospital?

Hey Dave - that's a great endorsement for your bars. What model are they?
Hi mate, the bars are from www.sunlineracing.com. They are "Sunline AV ONE - OS CRF/KXF/RMZ 9710" model.

I can't believe they are not bent to all hell either! I guess they may be quite good but personally had never heard of them before.

Hi Andy, had the X-rays at 11am today at Pacific Radiology. Apparently no fractures currently visible. They said if the pain continues even with rest that I may need re-xray to see if any hairline/stress fractures show up later after time to calcify a little BUT they felt probably the pinpoint pain areas may be ligament damage.

Basically am on doctors orders to REST for at least a week as much as poss now and we'll see how it goes - still hopeful to make the KCR though! We shall see!

Thx for asking after how it went mate, much appreciated.
    Cheers, Dave
