I also know a guy that does the same...except the cops usually demand name and address from him. He tends to do that to cops, somethin about his attitude.

They are actually thinking about your dollars. If they do them after hours all staff get paid overtime, so by doing it before 5pm they are saving money...

    Talking

But that remids me of a true story:

A mate of mine had a Kingswood s/w and he and a few mates had been drinking a few to many. It was still sunny so they decided to drive home. But coming off the Western motorway at Henderson got stopped by the constabulary. The mentioned measuring stick was pointed in his face and he was asked for name and address.

He was thinking: "I am done". But being a law abidient westie he opened his mouth and was about to surrender his license by informing the man in blue about his name etc.

He only had time to open his mouth when his mate sitting next to him on the bench seat stated his name and address. The alert police man checked the dial on the thingy and said: "Thank you, please drive safe"...

Almost that exact same thing happened to me on the bike at a road block in appleby at Richmond in Nelson area.

When we pulled up a guy in a cage in front of us spun back and did a runner.

I was so busy watching to see what happened to him, I didn't notice the cop approach and shove the thingy in my helmet.

When I realised he was there asking my name address etc, I was quite hessitant in registering what he had said so my wife on the back told him my name and address!

He looked quizicly at me then back to her and said ride on have good day!

I still haven't answered him but they got the guy that did the runner! Cheers, John.

I haven't been stopped for a wee while, but for the beach hop they were out in force in Whangamata on Friday night. They breath tested us on the way into Whangamata, and a few minutes later, after refueling, they wanted to test us on the way out!

My eldest daughter was sober driver for a bunch of her mates a few years ago. They were out at Snells Beach (one road in/out). They went into town to buy supplies and got stopped for a breath test, came back and were stopped on the way back in. The occupants of the car thought it was really funny so decided that she should drive backwards and forwards a few more times. Eventually the cops growled her and told her to go home and stay home

I was in Gisborne with my cousin and his girlfriend. We were leaving a pub with me driving and saw a cop car a few hundred metres back heading my way. I decided to give the car a little weave, the cop pulled me over and checked that I hadn't been drinking, then let me carry on. That's how boring Gisborne is! I'm glad I was only there for a couple of days.

My husband was stopped at a breath testing checkpoint in Dannevirke once and failed the first test. All his mates laughed and the cop said "this is NOT a laughing matter" but they then explained it was funny because he doesn't drink at all! He had to take his helmet off and redo it, and he passed the second time, but god knows what caused a positive reading the first time.

Oh,I forgot I was stopped in Jersey once ??

" Do you know the speed limit here sir?"

    Me " yes 30 mph"

Police; "And how fast were you going?"

    Me: "30 mph"

    Police: "you know this how?"

Me: "I look at my speedo!"

Police; "Well we clocked you at 30mph!"

Me: " I'm confused Mate, Why did you stop me then?"

Police: "Because we thought you were about to go faster!"

Me:"You stopped me because I looked like I was going to go faster" "Can I go now"

Police: " Yes sir, enjoy the rest of your evening just bear in mind what I said"

Me: "don't think about going faster when you see a police speed trap ???? Got it, see ya."

Absolutely true conversation but I must just add these are voluntary Police, farmers with the power to shoot you. Gumboots, overalls ,A shared policeman's cap and powers of arrest that would astonish the free world.
    Oh bugger

I don't like being asked my address by a cop when they don't suspect me of anything...
