Following what VINZ asked for - I will need more information on your motorcycle. Is the vehicle New Zealand New or imported. Has it been registered before. What is the year of manufacture. Please provide the vin number and I will make sure it the NZTA system recognises the number. Do you have proof of ownership. Reply: I presume its a New Zealand new bike. It has not been registered before. 1990 is the year of manufacture. The Vin number looks to be KX500E-001132. I have proof of ownership by way of payment made through bank account to previous owner and purchase auction details saved. Heres hopeing get right answer tomorrow, coming up on Car Jam as Invalid plate number or VIN Pretty sure thats the number on frame, be 1 didgit out at most, frame looks to have been put in bake oven at some stage, with the didgits not being real clear. Maybe not in system

my experience is that firstly, a chassis number is different to a VIN number

secondly, upon my calling the AA christchurch a few months back about getting an old road bike back on the road that had dead plates/vin not in the system, without proof it was previously registered/deregistered in NZ there's nothing they can legally do as it might have been imported stolen.

BS i thought but apparently that's the story.

could be worse though; a mate of mine tried to import a citroen cage but couldn't get it road legal unless he imported another to let them do a crash test on it!

Cheers for info, "heading" towards banging a plate and lights on and taking the risk, like to see a Dunnydore chase me "head for the nearest forest"

number of years back i put an old gsxr400 back on the road when asked for proof of ownership they told me to get a letter stating how i obtained it with all the details leading to me owning it and have it signed off by a JP.
The chassis number wont show up on carjam as there is no register for off road bikes a dealer may be able to tell you if it was 1st sold here.
