Thanks heaps for all your comments.

It has definitely opened up my mind a little bit more than it previously was.

I have pretty much decided that it is not worth the risk, I will get a 2 fiddy and learn to ride it over a year or more before stepping up to something bigger.

to be honest, I hadn't even considered the insurance thing, so thanks for pointing that out to me

Still trying to work ot what to get, but it seems if you get an older bike as opposed to a new one, its going to hold its value better for resale or trade later on.

    thanks again

ftw - learn to ride a 2 smoke 2 fiddy properly and you'll probably ride around about 70% of the peeps in here.

    Have fun learning.

Good man. There is a huge range of bikes to choose from. Trailies, Cruisers, Tourers, Sprotbikes, Naked, Faired, 2 stroke, 4 stroke, Single to 4 cyls....
To the beginning rider, it can be quite dizzying to decide, but with 'our' help you'll get there.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Also investigate 150 two strokes. (KR150, RG150 etc..)
Not too differnt in speed to a gpx or whatever and you can race them when you move on to a bigger road bike.

Well I'm pleased to see that common sense has ruled for a change.
I'd like to think that the guys who offered you sensible advice also had a modicum of input to your decision and I'd like to thank them for making the effort to put you on the right track.
Go start looking hard and remember if you ask , the advice will flow.

Any licence breach is $400 + 25 demerits, BUT you only get the demerits on one offence per notice. If you get done for 3 licence offences on a notice it'll cost you $1200 but only 25 demerits.

If you get too many tickets for the same licence offence (carrying passengers etc) you can be charged in court rather than an instant fine and the judge will take your licence....

Fold it into a neat little origami dart then shove it up ya jacksah.. oh & then send yer pride & joy to the crusher through some perversion of the recent law changes to nail 'Road racers'

no guarantee any of that can happen however..

Do a riding course.. buy the 250.. do advanced riding course.. have full license in no time & sell the 250 to 'friends that recognise your coolness'

Though i remember some thread somewhere on KB that discussed the NSW legislation for learner bikes to have a CC limit of 400cc..
If I had a GF I'd like only ride 5 times a week!

When the hell are they going to get around to implementing the LAM list in NZ anyway?
