A good little ride - thanks. Both loops were generally fast and had some nice variety. A couple of trips around loop 1 was a good warm up with loop 2 being a little more technical in parts, but still quick and better all round. Good traction, not crowded after the first 20 minutes, and a fantastic lunch. The loops were well set out, well marked and the little bit of slippery stuff in loop 2provided a welcome touch of trail riding. Didn't see any dramas/crashes so appeared that all went well for the 250?? riders.
yeah mate. Me and a few mates did it. Was cool, not my favourite type of riding as 'tis pretty balls out with a few decent drops but that's just the nature of farms huh. But that said it was much safer than farm rides like the raetihi ripper. Loved the rutty little tech section down through the bush. Passed a few throttle jockey MX boys through here lol
Couldn't get my head to automatically store the keep right rules and had one very near miss that involved me turning left off the seal onto a gravel road where there was a quad coming at me. I corrected just in time but had to lift my inside leg over said quad riders bike while my footpeg clipped and panged off his front tyre. Was my fault cos i cut the corner forgetting all about the keep right rule but a cone and a reminder sign would've helped. There probably was a sign but i was locked into race vision.
My mate Dave loved it and was kicking our asses all day. He has large stones in his pants and was saying on the way home that he wishes there was more of that type of riding around. So that reinforces the "different strokes for different folks" theology. Personally i'm hoping for something more tech and slippery with large kick ass knarly hills next time so i've got a better chance of trouncing the cunt (dave that is). Any heads up on what your next one will be like? Either way i'm gonna increase my power riding to 30 mins a night ha haaa
All up we had a wicked blast and will definately be coming to the next one (for which i lost the flyer) so what's the date and road name again? Otaki george road was it?
Oh and $30 is a real good price too when you supply lunch. Nice work, thanks very much

A membership form is attached. $20 for a single senior. Membership runs until the end of June, so up to you whether you join now or leave until next membership year.
If you join now, you'd get $5 off the entry fee to our last two trail rides.
We have member-only events such as kids days (one is the pipeline) and our xmas ride (late Nov/early Dec). Not promising any other member only rides between June & the xmas ride as we are restricted by farm activities (they don't want us there during lambing/calving etc).
If you want to join for this membership year, please send the application form/payment in before the end of this month.

a good ride, and we need a lot more rides nearer to wgtn
the track layout that spread the riders out more than most loop rides was great.
unlike the other guys i hate that damp clay stuff, but thats probably coz i smashed my wrist in similar terrain, enjoyed all the rest.
lunch was excellent. sausages are ok but any ride with hamburgers/meat patties gets extra points.
those llama's are goofy looking creatures.
speaking of creatures. i stopped on the first loop of the day to adjust my rear brake and was damn near malled by a stampede of deer all leaping and bounding with gay abandon like. Never saw the Llama where was he?

I was there with my trusty camera. As you can see the Alpaca was friendly and quite interested in the goings on. I enjoyed it and the food was great. I likes the 3 separate loops which helped spread things out I practically rode the 2nd loop (on the farm west side) by myself. The slippery clay track was fun. I did this ride a few years back in the rain it was still great fun.
It's an alpaca - On Saturday it was in the same paddock as the track and he was VERY VERY friendly towards our lads marking out the track and chasing them on their bikes (he can run bloody fast). The owner later said to be very careful of him, he's being super friendly at the moment as he's looking to hump anything that moves. A while back he broke some of the owners ribs by charging at him. Biology lesson - when alpacas mate they do it sitting down so the male charges and jumps on the female to get her to sit down. So the moral of the story is never turn your back on a randy alpaca!

hmm' there was long gulley / terawhiti station on the sout coast of wellington ...Got any ideas for venues? It's almost impossible to get land any further south than Otaki.
The Wellington Trailriders assn held a XC around the Hayward hills area a few weeks back also. Justin Stevenson of KMMCC organised it, I believe he lives in that area ...
Theres always the Maugatouks / Karipoti..

We used to use Terawhiti but access has been closed for ages due to the construction of the windfarm.
Wgtn Trail Riders probably have long standing access to areas. It's easier for them (and motox clubs) to get access since they have far less riders than we do - you don't get 400-850 riders at a cross country or enduro. There is a particular place near Welly we held a trail ride and were promised one the next year - then one farmer pulled the plug as Wgtn Trail Riders did a ride and claimed they left a hell of a mess on his place, so didn't want anyone back there anytime soon.
We've done a trail ride through there and wont do it again for a raft of reasons, including the ranger going back on his promise to close the forest and give us exclusive access (apparently a trail ride is not a speed event?!). People have access to most of the tracks anytime, so the turnout is always going to be lower. Enduro riders etc would pay for the KMMCC events as they are part of the competition schedule.
We've approached various other places in the Wgtn area but there are hardly any areas big enough to cater for us now. It's even getting harder up Otaki/Levin way as farms are broken up into smaller blocks.
Hunterville (our Otairi View ride) we can have as much as we like, but it seems to be a bit out of the way for people to come to. We are looking at doing a 2-day event next year, all going to plan!
