    Red face Newbie chick (KiwiPhoenix)

I'm new to the site and also to bikes! I'm a 32 yo chick that wants to get their bike licence but have no clue where to start! I've always wanted to get one but the time has never been right. My friends dad gave me a ride on his bike in 06 and I'm completely hooked!

    Looking forward to chatting!

Start with a Basic handling course from Passrite or similar.
They supply the bike and gear so nothing else required.
Then sit your scratch and win license test to get your learners, easy if you've been driving for years.
Then buy suitable gear, cheap is ok at this stage, you can upgrade as you go.
Then the fun bit, go test riding bikes to find out what you want.
6 months on learners, 6 months on restricted, then full license, easy.
They said i have so much ass crack that i could be a dealer

Hi KiwiPhoenix and congratulations on your big decision. There is some good advice available on this site. If you use the 'Search' facility, there is not much you can't find.

Regarding what is available to help you in CHCH, I am sure that some good advice will follow shortly.

Good luck and take it nice and easy

Mwaaah, all the new girls are so far away!

Yeah Dealer speaks the truth. Training is near imperative, or what happens is you never really get past things you don't understand, and your feelings always run high, and then you get a little scare or two, and then you give up, AKA "biking is not for me", so don't let that happen to you.

If you definitely cannot get training, then you need local help. You can sort-of get the basics from a website as KB, but you will get four hundred different versions.

It's not hard, and once you get the basics you are away - after that its just little bits and pieces, unless you really really want to corner and brake like a pro - thats another level again.

So welcome to KB, and good on your pluck!

"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

Hello there fellow phoenix. Mainland Driving School do the basic handling skills tests in Chch.

Once you've done that you just need to do a scratchy test at the AA and you've got your learners licence!! Then get a bike and all the gear and away you go. (I know of a 250 bandit that's for sale in Chch)

    Good on ya!!

Hey, chicky, Welcome to biking and to KB. Liberally use the search feature and all will be right in your world. Also, ask at your local bike shop. Usually, they are very good to deal with and know everything you are asking about.
