Thread: Ideas for mixing oil and petrol out on the road

  1. #16
Yes,there was 2 stroke at the pump - BP Zoom was one brand. The BSA Bantam (and others) had a graduated tube in the filler cap,you put the oil in there, and then emptied into the tank....so all the oil ended up in the fuel.I used to put the oil in first (shut the fuel tap) and then the fuel going in would do most of the mixing...then a shake shake.

Life is so difficult these days - you actually have to think these things out, instead of it just being part of a culture....the knowledge was all around.

I did the same thing when I use to ride my Suzuki RL250 Trials bike on the road.
I knew if I hit reserve I could put in 5 Liters so I carry two small bottles of oil in my pockets.

Put the oil in first and try to mix it in with the petrol as you full the tank.
And give it a good shake by holding the front brake on and po-going the fork's.
Now this will earn you some strange looks from other people fulling there cars.
Feel the fear and do it anyway

what if you plastic weld or somehow else attach a tube to the bottom of your filler cap with measurements on it of say 1 or 2 litres worth of oil. see attached pic

Isnt a kx500 a bit of a crazy adventure ride bike? I rode a cr500 a few years back and it was beasty, hard to imagine a road version of this, unless you are going flat out all the time motocross style. That would be fun though. Also i thought the 2 smokers didnt like cruzing, and plugs gummed up etc? anyhow happy riding!

Cheers all, thanks for the reminder of petrol and oil liking each other and the drawing.

CR500 by all accounts are not as smooth at delivering the power as the dirty 5.
