Ceramco Round The Houses Auckland motorcycle race?

Some old geezer was telling me about a street race that used to happen around New Lynn in Auckland. Is he making this up? Tell me more?

Around 1980,there were at least a couple, maybe more.Start/finish on Clark St,up Rankin, then Margan Ave,and down Astley Ave.I was a Westy back then,we parked our bikes at a friends place in Gardner Ave and walked down to the races. Those were the days eh?

Run by the Lions club , I think they gave it away because too many people jumped the fence without paying so they made no money . Pretty sure Nev Doyle brought brought the Team Kawasaki Australia boys over one year.
WTF!!! , I must officially be an 'Old Geezer'

There were fences??!! I seem to remember you could walk in anywhere, and no one asked us for money.

    Perhaps they didn't dare....

Yes,I think the problem was location, location, location. And Beaumont St wasn't much better.Good races though. When I was a real young nipper, there used to be races at Bucklands Beach, went right past Nana's place.

Yup, it was a pigs ear of a circuit & the logistics of making it work were too hard for a bunch of keen volunteers.

Beaumont St ?? , you must be an old old geezer, or maybe I was drunk at the time & missed it.

We used to come ot there in the '57 Fairlane after the dances at Ellerslie community hall and race the locals b4 heading back into town to do Beaumont St. Oh, and we used to pick up a 1/2 gal of the cheap cherry brandy from Wineworths at the downtown Bus depot. Had to play hide'n seek from the Fat Cat ACC. traffic cops that patroled town in those days.....They drove XA Falcon V8's then.

I also remember the street racing at New Lynn and came across some photos the other day of Robert Holden, Peter Glifford and others plus some sidecar boys from the Beaumont St racing.
