How do you organise your Easter Egg Hunt?

With 3 young boys at home I do the following:

I make up a map of the backyard (simple stuff hand drawn where trees, cars, bikes etc are marked out). I then hide their eggs in good spots and mark them on the map. Each of them has their own ones they have to find. Only one map that I keep and they have to come back to look at the map each time to try and figure out where to go next.

Last year one egg could not be found. I was proud of my hiding technique. After 20 minutes of searching when the other two were happily eating theirs, and close to tears, I decided to give my boy a hand. But I could not find the egg either. Some of the wrapping was there thou. And a trail of wrapping and some small chocolate bits. A bloody hedgehog had stolen it!

I need to do this on motor bikes. Perhaps a map of the forest and the boys on their bikes riding around searching.

I have been giving my boys blatent hints about the location of hidden eggs, They tear off to go find them, all rowdy and excited.

Funny thing is the eggs are still in the kitchen cupboard.

What a fantastic idea ... the kids I help with are a little young for that yet .. but next year I think its a goer .. .we are gonna simple hide them in easy to find in the garden this year.

Right. That bunny and me have completed the mission. (Well, I stand corrected, ME and the bunny...)

- Map was drawn (I had to do it, bunny could not hold pen!)
- Hiding places for eggs were selected (I had to do that, bunny was busy trying to bonk my cats!)
- Eggs were hidden (I had to do that too, bunnys fingers are as useful as five cocks!)
- The positions of the hidden eggs were marked on the map. (I had to do that three, bunny got lost in the carrot patch)

The boys came home and eagerly got stuck in searching. (see pic of map) At times some clues were needed. (I had to do that four, the bunny had by now disappered down the road trying to fuck the neighbours Jack Russel)

Took them just over an hour to find 5 eggs of different sizes each.

Mission accomplished.

There, another Andersson custom completed for the year. Now we need to do the second one we do each Easter. No not church. We take down the christmas tree for easter. In respect of Jesus. I mean, should not really celebrate his birth on the day he died...

We jus let our hens lay their eggs wherever they want, then we go looking. Today we found 2 eggs inside an old tub, and 1 in the dog kennel. There's still at least one more out there somewhere.

We haven't done the Easter egg hunt for a few years - our kids are too old,and our granddaughter too young.But it might be fun to go through one with her she can look forward to it next year.

Anyway,Good Friday is not for Easter eggs,it's hot cross bun day.Being hippies still,it's traditional in our family to make our own hot cross buns.I usually do them....but I was fitting the manifolds on the Pajero and the girls were in charge.They forgot the crosses - so they have been named Pagan Buns.I think we will keep Pagan Buns as our new Easter tradition.

They are yummy too.

Did the Easter egg hunt today with our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter.We made our own eggs,a Hippy tradition handed down through the generations.We had to hide things in plain sight,and had clues with pictures we drew,and got her to guess what they were.We did far too many,she flagged in the middle,but picked up again towards the end.She'll be talking about it for days,and next year she'll be more into it.

Too much time spent playing with little people and big kids - I don't think I'll get the Pajero running,and a bike ride won't be possible.Some things in life are more important than bikes.....not many,but the ones that are,are worth it.

Sounds great Motu ... we did a hunt as well ... a 2 and 4 year old ... hid eggs aound the edge of the garden ... and just at their eye height in trees .. next year I think making eggs and doing maps will add much more fun to it.

I ended up doing a proper Easter Egg hunt for my 2 boys, we went away to the Mangaweka camp ground so on Sunday morning I got up early and stashed a few around the bushes.

It was a great weekend away, It started with a speeding ticket, Progressed to me mixing up the washing bag and the rubbish bag, resulting in me emptying all sorts of horrible crap onto our clothes, and last nigh we spent awake while the 1.5 year old rolled around on our bed and spewed up the days food intake.
