From the poster 5cv = Five Cheveaux or 5 horsepower. That's even less then my Ducati. I feel vindicated somehow....

My 1936 R17 has very similar performance to the early /5 series apart from the cornering because of those awful cast aluminium footplates I had to get from the UK. Each rocker has dual roller bearings and whole thing is beautifully engineered. The mudguards are the same as the R7. My bike is believed to be the 1936 Olympia show bike and is now in the BMW Museum. It was too rare to ride. Good to see the R7 reborn.

I have a heap of colour photos on a large sheet which need to be blown up and put on digital. Only I have no idea who does this.
I bought the R17 in England from a garden shed for $200 and shipped it home. It took me about 8 years to restore it although it was very complete when I bought it. There are a few pre-war BMWs in NZ of various models but they are not very exciting.

That's a great looking bike. So different to anything else that was being made at the time.

Mind you, BMW has designed some real weird looking bikes.

Innovative. And they got that one right by the look of it.

    Art Deco Part Deux

Couldn't be arsed finding the original thread but this was too full of awesomeness to pass up:

All I know at the moment is that it was originally a 1930 Henderson
