Taking a 250 to the track?

It was my first time out and I've totally been bitten by the track bug will be going again Mon 20th to the Redline Track day at Pukekohe might bump into you on the track........have fun.

Not sure if that was the right choice of words lol

I don't get my licecne back till the 28th so I think it will be better if I familiarize myself with the bike before i go hurtling down the track!

And discotex NIce ride lol.. I think I want to hit taupo first.. Puke is very straight and i think My bike will be working almost too hard haha

Just get out there and have fun. There will be a group that suits you just fine. Puke's a waste of time on anything less than a 600 IMHO. Once you get fast, a lot of the bigger bikes will struggle to get past you (just ask billy or Vtec).

Any sized bike is better on a track than the road............and as for worrying about faster/bigger bikes, let them worry about it.
The biggest thing is not to worry about who or what is behind you, most trackdays have a policy of no passing on the inside, so if you just worry about yourself and hold your line rather than letting other bikes through you'll be fine

get out there man, you would be surprised how easy it is to keep a reasonable pace with everyone, if your getting smoked down the straights dont let it get to you, just concentrate on what your bike is good at. what you lose on the straights on a 250 you should get some back on the brakes at the other end, anyway youll learn more on a 250 than a big bike i reckon so just go hard and have fun. only rule you should never forget is dont change your line to let someone past, if there that much faster than you they will go past anyway. one last thing, one of the best feelings on the track is kicking the butt's of bikes that should just pick you up and spit you out, on a 250 you got a shot at that.

I'm going to find some HTFU pills somewhere and hit up to first trackday at Taupo when I get my licence back..

DOOOO IT!!!!! You love man once youve done your first youll be hooked .

I Take my 250 to trackdays, dont worry about it being to small youll still have heaps of fun belive me, im already booked in for my 4th trackday on the 250 at MotoTT at the end of this month.

Just go into the slow/novice group your first few times and everything will be all good especially when you start taking a few of the thous and 600s

The 250 will be fine! If you can ride that to the limit on Taupo then you are doing extremely well. As said, it is much better than caning the nuts off it on the road.

Back in November I took a bunch of guys (and girls) to Taupo for a training day. Goodness knows how many laps we did on the 2.2k track, but it was a lot! The improvements seen throughout the day from the "learners" was very gratifying.
Then fast forward through Christmas to Manfeild on January 10th, and they were all coming and saying the Slow group was too slow!
Yes, this from people who had only been on bikes for 6 months!

They were making up lots of ground on the corners only to be overtaken down the straight by a big bike... Only for the over taker to get in the way under brakes at the end of the straight.....
Yes, all sounds very scary and dramatic, but at the end of the day if you are in control all these things can be dealt with very competantly.

You will get more out of the track day that you can ever imagine.

Remember you don't know what you don't know.
Ask questions, get as much advise you can from those that know what they are doing.
I'm sure they will be only too happy to help.

The ZXR250A is quite a lot of fun on the track. Just remember that it's a high-strung engine, so make sure you have got your oil changed recently.

Get out there mate and do it. You probably wont get a lot out of doing one at Puke cos you'll just be flat out all the time.

Mid pack for F3 was 1.13 at pukie a couple of years back.. V tec was mid pack on a 250 -nuff said??
Id suggest that on a decent zxr250 the only concern Id have at a place like taupo would be the RIDER not the bike

Have a mate who rides an Aprillia Factory on the road.He races a 89 Suzuki gsxr250rr on the track days.Reckons he has more fun on the 250 than ever has on the road.So just go for it.The 250 will be heaps of fun and will really show up the big bikes through the corners....

When I was at the most recent MotoTT track day in Taupo, there was a guy on a Hyosung in the slowbies group along with a guy on a Ninja 250. They both did fine, if I could have afforded it I'd have been out there with them on my Hyoslug.

Good on 'em, I say. Best they start learning how to really give the 250 hell on the track, as opposed to the road.
