    A motorcade speeds...big fucking deal.
There is a strong puritanical streak in the New Zealand pysche that gives me the shits. If we stopped fucking whinging and got on with our own lives this country would be a better place.

As for the dipshit that started the thread - ain't you the plonker who brags about not stopping for the feds? If there's twenty cops with Chuck, you'll have less to run away from, won't you? Stop complaining and use the time to find the capslock key...

I was coming back from a job in Palmy and saw crown driver getting a ticket at Mana North of Wellywood. I guess the defence only carries if they have a crown passenger.

The time is back during Rob Muldoon's years as Prime Minister. My mother was a professional driver, had been most her life, and was at that stage holding down three jobs - taxis, Crippled Childrens' Bus and the Airport Shuttle (Hamilton).

She was on her Airport Shuttle job and pulled into the airport to find a car, complete with NZ flags and gummint plates occupying the clearly marked airport shuttle bus stop. She pulled in behind it, got out of the shuttle and informed the driver he was illegally parked and he was to move.

He informed her that he was waiting to pick up the Prime Minister and had no intention of moving - the rules, he felt, did not apply to him. Mum reiterated that he was breaking the law and it was her park and he reiterated that care, he did not.

Mum then basically said "Suit yourself, I'm going back to the bus and I'm going to park in this space whether or not you are in it." She went back to the bus, set it in gear and rolled forward...

Chauffeur fired up his engine and moved out, fast.

He parked in one of the public parks further away from the main gate and mum lit a cigarette (ah, the days before the "smoke-free workplace" policy), sat back and relaxed and grinned like the Devil as she watched the Rt Hon, Rob't Muldoon having to waddle down the footpath to his car.

Dunno if she'd have been as unforgiving if it had been a Labour PM...
NOW THIS I LIKE, DO YOU REALLY THINK SHE WOULD OF GIVEN HIM A NUDGE?

Fact is, if the Govt wants us to believe that by exceeding the speed limit we're gonna kill someone, how do they sanction a motorcade speeding? No matter who's in it or how bloody good they think their drivers are.

I'm not trying to have a dig at the 5-0 or anyone here, but it's contrary to Govt policy!

The fact is, in the nasty world we live in, nutters will always want to take pot shots at big wigs no matter where or who they are just to get their name / cause in the head lines.

Senior diplomats, heads of state royals etc etc cannot sit in traffic with targets painted on their doors. The cost of the clean up should the unthinkable happen vastly out weights the minor hassle of a speedy motorcade.

    Welcome to the 21st century
Well really, if I wanted to take him down, I'd go into a building somewhere with a nice view? Can't be that hard...

Hmmm, professional driver of a good number of years' standing who once did the ton on the Wellington motorway because some fare was freaking her out with "hypothetical questions"... Would she give a govvy car a nudge? Probably do it without leaving a mark on either vehicle (wouldn't be the first time she'd push started one car with another). She was certainly in the right mood to, so far as I could tell.

Sadly, some time later a drunk shot the red at the Victoria St/Ulster St junction and cleaned out her cab as she was U-turning onto the taxi rank (which, since the lights were red, she should have been able to do safely). Smashed her knee and she couldn't drive any more - lost three sources of income that day. Dad was in the cab behind her, also waiting to turn, saw the whole lot. To cap it off, the drunk got out of his car and abused the shit out of her.

    Wish I'd been there.

/me smacks fist into palm meaningfully.
    Motorbike Camping for the win!
