    MarkS showing off.

    It was this steep.

That sign is a bit of an understatement. This would make a nice tag shot.

Well done guys, you knocked the bastard off!

Pity I couldn't be there with you today, but the Transalp was sulking in the garage while I picked up another bike to attack the hill with - don't she look slim & sexy!

That photo 5 is very cool, with the Dakar up close and Dave blurred behind.

And photo 6, Joe, you seemed to be having lots of problems with water exits yesterday. whats up?

Yeah, that was almost an accident. He just about ran me over. Came out pretty cool eh.

I like the one of the AT entering the river. Bloody deep.

    some details please Andy ....

is that a WR or a TTR or what

cmon Andy - a photo is useless without words

w'ell rerun Cnut if you want so you can bring it on. Because the truth be told we did NOT conquer cnut. Bart got to the top - but only by being pushed by Joe. Bryce got close to the top and I got about 20-30m from the top before my clutch overheated and stopped being a clutch.

this thing is still UNFINISHED BUSINESS

What a great day out! Absolutely brilliant fun! Kudos to the intrepid ones who attacked Cnut Hill, nice one guys!

And those river crossings..... definitely getting deeper!

Thanks to the photographers too - great pics as usual!

I still think Sutherlands is one of the best rides we do, got a bit of everything and the added bonus of starting & finishing at Toppys - can't be bad!

See you guys next weekend! If my op goes ahead on Monday 31st, next weekend will be last ride for a few weeks so will be keen to head out into the yonder weather allowing!
    Cheers, Dave

Mark I will be keen to go back to Sutherlands after my op recovery and with a decent rear tyre on the DR! Maybe I'll finally put a 14T on the front too LOL!
    Cheers, Dave

I think you've hit the core issue on the head

The DT would go up cnut if I lower the gearing about 10%-20% more (its already running a 14T front instead of 16T stock) but that will make the bike unpleasant on the road at 100k.

I think there are only 2 types of bikes that will get to the top with average riders.

    1/ Trail bikes
2/ Adventure bikes that are geared down to the point where it compromises their ability to cruise at 100k.

In my book - an adventure bike that will not cruise comfortably at 100k is not an adventure bike - its a trail bike with lights.

I would not enjoy riding the DT230 300km to and from cnut if the gearing was any lower.

my son and I are discussing throwing our trail bikes on a trailer and spending a day attacking that damn hill.

That makes me feel better! I was chafing away yesterday afternoon after getting home, knowing you guys couldn't go there just "to have a look" on a day as nice as yesterday, worrying I had missed the chance for a team assault and wondering if I should have "manned up" and ridden the Pampera over!

Good heavens is that thing is well named. When a hill actually looks steep in a photograph is is STEEP!

I am going to send away for some even lower sprockets............

    Thumbs up

well done to all you hard types who did all of those deep stream crossings and the intrepid (or is that stoopid) few who attacked Cnut Hill - were I to attempt I'd want a sharp D606 on the rear and a 14 or even 13T engine spocket on my DR.

Given I was feeling woosy from a Meniere's spin I had suffered yesterday and Friday night, just as well I didn't come.

You guys certainly had a great day for it - Kudos to Bart for the photos.

noice bike Andy Mac - looks like a suitable tool to complement your already considerable ability as demonstrated on the T/A
