nobody lives in there. so i cant ring anyone.

and im not rideing down there early in morning just to check the height off the water.
so check the weather thursdy and fridy night. ill post the days weather tomorrow and friday.

if its raining sat or looks like rain sat im not going to bother getting wet.
or risk damage to my bike, so close to south island trip.
my moneys very tight now days so cant risk any unplaned repairs.

I was thinking more along the lines of, if it pisses down all Friday night in Masterton, chances are the rivers will be up. If it doesn't rain Friday night, we should be alright.

I'm a non-starter for any offroadin before the SI trip. Had thoracic spine x-ray this morning, got a minor fracture(hairline compression fracture) in vertabrae in upper back between shoulder blades! Not major and should be healed in 6 weeks ish from date of accident, with rest(!), so am goin on the Invasion ride BUT I gotta be a good boy til then! Only downside is it restricts what physio can do treatment/work wise on the other damaged areas until its all healed cos she has to avoid aggravating the fracture area, but she reckons SI trip should be a goer if i rest as much as poss til then; might still have some muscular pain on that ride but a couple of HTFU pills each day on the trip and I'll be fine!
    Cheers, Dave

I was thinking about using some boat fenders in the panniers to soften the laydowns. Have I already accepted the inevitable?
    you're a brave man Andy
I wouldn't consider taking the KLR up that hill
I'd be surprised if anyone gets up there without a few offs
hmmm - I've got some boat fenders.....

Not that anybody was counting me but I'm not gonna be able to go this weekend mothers day ( first one), bit of a cold for me and heaps of work todo at home. Have good time and program another try not too far into the future.

Thats all good for that one trip but there will be other trips after that. Don't get too caught up in having a good time while it's trying to heal. We're not 20 & invincible anymore.

Yeah I know what you mean, but don't worry, I'm basing coming on the SI trip on what the physio said to me today and am not just being a gung ho idiot, honest. The only caveat is if something between now & then happens to bugger that fracture more, but I am gonna rest as much as poss, definitely no offroadin, try hard to drive & ride as little as poss too, as lookin over my right shoulder is an issue - it strains down through the problem areas! The problem with trying to rest is of course having a 3 & 5 yr old in the house half the week and an ex-wife who doesn't drive which leaves me doing the shuttling around of my daughters!

See physio tomorrow and she said the back will probably be getting taped up again to try support the area around the fracture as well. If the physio is correct, by the time the SI ride comes around I should only be carrying the remains of the muscular/tendon/ligament type injuries as that will be 6 weeks post accident. Fingers crossed anyway! Oh and will see if doctor can give me different pain medication - the Diclofenac doesn't seem to be cutting it as i am just in pain all day that builds as the day goes on - hence Monday night after physio I spent almost the entire evening lying on my back on the floor and had to take a sedative to be able to get to sleep - not good!

    Cheers, Dave

I don't mean this in an uncaring way, but that's an example of what stress can do to someone I guess! Not good! Lets hope your mate will pull thru it well Joe! People can make good recoveries from heart attacks mate, just takes some time!

[QUOTE=marks;1129201992]I'll trailer over to Toppys and if its totally pissing down with no sign of stopping I'll drink several lattes, perv at the waitress and head home.

    Mark,
while I was/am a starter, the omens have not been looking good, with Joe's news the latest. I would be keen to put this off a little in the hope we have a day which is good, has had some dry days before and we have a bigger team. Where is your head at?

I just put my R100RS back on the road - it hibernates over summer, too hot to ride when you have other choices, with the weather as it is, sounds like the ideal bike for a Saturday trip over to Toppy's!

given that there is a reasonable chance of minor offs on the 4wd tracks that we will be riding on the SII perhaps a pressure suit or at least some back armour might be a sensible investment.

Yeah I think thats bloody good advice Mark! One thing on my list to buy if the IRD gets my back WFFTC money to me in time; but I think if they don't I will have to grovel to mother for a loan!

Cheers for thinkin of me Mark, appreciated mate & good advice for sure!

I'm still in. The weather forecast doesn't look too bad for Saturday. A lot will depend on the river level after tomorrows rain.
