    meeting at Toppys at 10.30

after various high level phone calls the meeting time has been changed to 10.30 am at Toppy's (I need my beauty sleep)

its only an hour from the top of cnut to the coast gate so if we get to the Hut by 12 and the top of the hill by 1pm we'd be back at the Hut by 3pm and Martinborough by 4pm and home by 6

hope that doesn't dick you around too much Bart

Sweet as. I'll take the scenic route on the way down instead of the way back.

Nice to see you're still confident about getting up Cnut.

Weather is the same over here except its raining - I wouldn't be going if I had to ride to Martinborough.

    am leaving shortly

Thanks for that. I WILL be riding across & its pissing down. But looking at the rain radar I can see why the Wairarapa is missing it - its all funnelling through the Cook Straight. Looks like things will be clearer later on.

I'll be on my bike shortly.

Godsakes Joe, you're getting soft after all that time off!
There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

    Attempt on Cnut Hill

Pretty wet going over the Rimutaka's, & SLOW, given new, non-scrubbed knobbies.

Met MarkS, AndyMac & friend, Gav, Pamera, & Bart at Toppy's. Sat there for a while to allow the weather to improve, which it really didn't.

Out to the end of the Rd, still drizzling, riverlets going down the track, a bit slippy. The 1st river crossing was v.high, but we all got thru. The second had a tree down & that was that. Back up the track.

Had a look down Clay Rd, dead end. Back to Toppy's, who were closing. Round the cnr to Medicis & sat & drank lattes & chewed the fat about the coming 42/Fishers/Whanga Rd trip, then splashed across the Rimutakas to home.

Good trip & company, just disappointing the weather beat us a little. .

Someone will be along shortly with photos.

Now Mark is well known for wimping out when there a bit of water around but I think thats a worthwhile excuse this time.

Well coming back on the 1st stream crossing, my muffler was under water, & if I'd modified the airbox the bike would have drowned. So, yes, a bit of water going down the stream....

Yep, set out in the rain from Waikanae, had a puddle to sit in by the time I got to the Akas saddle!
Got some new pools in my boots and gloves over the rimatukas!
But got to Toppy's nice and early for a latte and a proper breakfast, and dried out a bit
Spent the rest of the time riding about various places - in the rain - Starting to enjoy it by now
After some precautionary poking about at the first river crossing I bit the bullet and made it over suprisingly easily
Though "Great - We're on now! Show me the hill!"
Then as the photos show we were stopped in our (soggy) tracks
Hopefully our 4x4 friends will clear that soon and we can get another go on "the hill"
Despite the rain, a great day, thanks all who braved the day, and tongues out to those who could only offer us moral support!

PS. As I decended the Akataruas guess what came out? Mr Sun!!! Typical!
