It's all to do with politicians. Most bike mfrs chose to make as few different variants as possible, so they make something which comforms to either all the laws, or most of them if the result looks really ugly.

Mid 90s rear-mudguards were *enormous* in Germany, but the EU money-trap did a good thing (for once) and made them standard everywhere, and normal sized. If you ever see a pic of a stock German FZR/EXUP, you'll see a piece of plastic which almost drags on the ground. Thankfully most other places thought that was too damned ugly and so Yam made them shorter.

That rule is also why BMW GSs have that stupid lower flap-thing on the swingarm. However, it does help keep the crap off me (not all of it tho, so I fitted a hugger as well) and was a convenient place to mount my "Touring Pom" GB sticker.

Ya better watch out if you ever come up to here . Cop's just Nail bike rider's to the MAX here for anything they can . Make's for a hard day's riding trying to get a good ride in with out having to play game's with them.
Bit like "Mad Max " .We are all slowly getting pushed onto the back road's so we can use our bike's the way they are suppose to be used

I havent had any problems with cops, just a nazi WOF guy, passed numerous cops on the road and have never been talked to.

The chances of cops knowing you have to have a reflector and mudguard for a WOF and actually enforcing it would be slim - i hope!

    Heres my bikes rear.

Looks awesome. Did the same to mine, however beware of stray stones and shit damaging the paint at the rear
Since doing mine I've had a stone crack my rear tailight lens and the paint around the light peppered with shit. Did a bit of damage. Easily avoided though. I just went and got some of that stick on headlight protection guff... the stuff that has the sticky back ...and applied it to my tail light. Used a bit of scuff tape to look after the rest.
