Harleys. Love them or hate them.

As the title implies, everyone has their opinions on them.
Not my cup of tea,but each to their own.

But i didn't start this thread to argue about weather they're the ducks nuts,or if they're a pet hate.

But SOME, (NOT ALL), of the guys riding harleys round in groups in the Naki on the weekend,(Easter bike show in new plymouth),are sure out to give them a bad ass name.

Two abreast,(not staggered),4-5 feet between bikes, hogging the road,(now i know where they get the name "HOG" from),and forcing passing manouevres, after sitting in the blind spot on the rear pillars of cars, that they were tailgating.

Several people had mentioned this to me over the weekend, and said it was a really intimidating feeling, and that they were forced to pull over, almost off the road as they passed, because they were riding WAY too close for their comfort.

I know you're probably thinking that i'm singling out Harleys, but aside from the one or two other brands amongst a sizable couple of bunches, that's all there was.

    No...They weren't patched up,either.So before you think that it's a gang thing,i can tell you it wasn't.

I've got mates, who ride in groups of predominantly Harleys, but they don't ride like this.

There's been far too many bike accidents lately, and i would prefer that there wasn't anymore.

So what the fucks up with the "tough guy" shit??

I experienced the same thing on the Southern Motorway a few weeks ago. A bunch of guys (mostly on Harleys) riding like dicks, no regard for road rules, courtesy or commonsense, seemingly just out to prove that they were big, tough, and brainless.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I was also in the Naki for the weekend.
The only dickhead behaviour I witnessed was a single rider on a BMW armchair, who followed me for ages, then on a blind left hander pulled out and passed me and the three cars in front of me.
This was in the Awakino Gorge in light rain.

I know harleys aren't the only ones, and i've seen sportsbikes,or whatever ride stoopidly, but i'm mainly refering to a specific couple of groups that were seen by myself and others.

I'm not exactly an angel all the time,,but i'm talking blatent stupidity.

Some Harley groups ride in a tight bunch - real tight. There are people on KB who have ridden like this and understand the motivation, and the potential problems.

Some caution is advised when contemplating overtaking a group riding like that.

    They may object...

Harley riders: You either Love them or Hate them and I myself arn't that keen on them but each to their own.
When I hear the word Harley or see 1 for that matter I straight away think of Gang Biker/Bikers as most gangs are made up of riders riding and owning Harleys, with the occassional Harley owner riding 1 because thats a motorcycle he has wanted to own ever since he was a young lad cos his Father or Uncle use to ride 1.
A majority of the time when I see them riding in big groups along the Highway they seem to spread themselves out in long convoys instead of riding in smaller groups and closer together which to me makes it very hard for anyone travelling behind them to over take them. Then maybe thats why they do it, cos they dont like being over taken.

Well it's not the bikes we are talking about; it is the image and camaraderie that goes with the HD name.

Other brands have tried to mimic this successful marketing method with varying levels of success. The Suzuki Boulevard thing that Colemans organise seems to be somewhat similar. It is a good way of keeping customer loyalty and encouraging owners to get others to join.

The HD thing is global and you will often meet folk from many parts of the world.

Should i be talking slower, so that you can understand??

You do? Who made you the spokesperson? I'm generally indifferent to them and I actually own one.

You do? What an intelligent, sophisticated and succinct analysis of bike culture.

    Love em.

Dislike the attitude of most who ride them though.
