Orongorongo Full-On Adventure Ride, Sunday 12 April

    OK,

I have got us confirmed access to Orongorongo Station for Saturday April 11th OR Sunday 12th April at $15 per head for a full-on assault, ie we can do any or all of the following for $15:

    1. Go up the 4wd track along Orongorongo River and up into/onto the overlooking hills!!!!
    2. Go along the coast 4wd track and return.
    3. Go along the 4wd coast track, exit, go to Lake Ferry or Martinborough for lunch AND retrace & go back thru Orongorongo again back to Wainuiomata.

Personally I say lets go ADVENTURING and start by going up the Orongorongo River 4wd track and see where we can get to and then see what's left of the day after that, so maybe a bit along the coast later in the day. That way if the River idea becomes a bust we can still do the other coast stuff anyway BUT we start with NEW TERRAIN!!!!

We will have no guide so it will be a Full-On Adventure!!!!!!!!

Therefore, I suggest early start at Wainui BP, maybe 8.30am plus bring lunch in case we stay on Orongorongo Station all day!

I know its short notice BUT have done it this way so there's 2 full weeks before the KCR, just incase anyone has bike damage(EEEK!!!!) that needs time to sort out before the KCR!

Who wants to come play on a full on assault of Orongorongo?

Lets have some feedback on which day suits asap please as I would like to tell land owner this Friday evening which day we are coming!
    Thx guys!
    Cheers, Dave

Bugger. If it was the Friday or Sunday I could go, but I can't do the saturday that weekend.
Bascially I can only do the days the shops aren't open that weekend.

    Dave,
pencil me in for this one. I am assuming the damage I did to myself on the way back out of Odlin's Road last weekend will have healed by then.

No I didn't ask - thought I would leave it to adventure heehee! Same goes for the orongorongo River - we go adventuring and see what we can accomplish - just for the hell of it!!!!!

Note I have asked Mods to change thread title to also say:

    "...... or Sunday 12th April".

Cos such short notice I thought give people chance for feedback and we go for day which suits most we can.

I want to tell land owner Friday evening what date tho so hopefully we get some quick KB'ers feedback and then we set day!!!!

    I'm hoping anyway!
    Cheers, Dave

    Google Earth it baby!!!

Ok so I just had a fly by on google earth, can definitely see the track going up along the east of the Orongorongo River from the farm houses and an obvious track going up into the hills east of the river and onto the hilltops. Who knows what the tracks will be like but it looks like the adventure is there waiting for us!
(the land owner DID tell me you CAN get up there on bikes! Question will just be how challenging it becomes - but that's how we like it in Welly, right?! )

    Cheers, Dave

The GPX tracklog from a recent Shiny Family 4x4 club trip up there can now be found under my GPS tracklogs link in my signature.

Whats in the tracklog can't be that rough if it was a family shiny run.

They went up the hill before the end of Coast road, and came down onto the river.
