    Naked bikes

Well - looks like I may have a buyer for the V-Strom

Which means I will be looking for a new bike.

Smaller Naked bikes have my attention at the moment. The main one in my sights being the Street Triple (in White - just to piss off Gubb).

I believe that I will have to change the rear shock - because I weigh more than I should. But I dont want to spend 18k on the new Street Triple R.

So question to the great unwashed (thats you fellas).

In a similar price range to the Street Triple - what other naked bikes would you recommend I test ride. Any gems that are a 'must ride' - does the Honda Hornet 600 actually make you gay - are there some naked bikes that look the part but are best avoided.

Im not a fast or very good rider - Just for commuting and blasting around on a the weekends / evenings.

Street triple... the "R" model would be better with the up rated suspension and brakes, but really I would try a S2R 800 Monster. Take one out if you haven't.. it may change you mind or just comfirm your thoghts on the triple? You have nothing to lose to try before you buy.
I have a Monster, mate my has a Speed, yet very much alike but also very match unalike!! if you get my meaning. Monster you sit in low with the bike, Street you sit "on" and feels that way to me.
Just a plug for the Duc...

Mate, just go test-riding and see what you like. Now you've got an excuse

Perfection is not something you should ever attain, but something to always strive for. For if we actually achieve our idea of perfection, is it then any longer perfect?

Why go new ? Price of a new street with suspension you'll have to upgrade pretty well straight away will get ya a speed triple thats barely run in ! (if you wanted to go that way that is, but don't let it throw ya)
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

My preference would be for a near new bike - let some other muppet take the depreciation hit. (like I have done so many times before - But I'm determined to be smarter this time)

Great idea. I'm doing the same with a new car. I've always brought new cars and lost 50% of the value in less than 3 years. Not this time I'm not. As you say, let some sucker take the first (and biggest) hit for you.

There's plenty of deals around. Have no mercy Tank!

the upside if its a business vehicle (and you're making money) is that the depreciation reduces taxable income. so you're driving a nice car and get the benefit, plus any finance is tax deductible too.... but still, when you look at the $ there ia big cash loss.

something I have to think about for later this year.

Oh, and on topic, if you want newmy pick is a street triple. If you dont want outright performance, but something charming, practical and fun, go for a squizz on a Bonneville or Scrambler.

XR1200 HD worth a ride also: similar money to the others also. (in fact exactly same price as Hornet 600, WTF is that about?)
