Are you Crazy enough? Rusty GC 09

If you haven't heard the Rusty Nuts Grand Challenge is on next Saturday.

A bunch of motorcycle types set off at 3pm from Turangi on a course they got the night before to see if they can ride 1600km's in 24 hours down some real back roads. We are a little down on the usual 120ish riders this year.

So who out of you lot is crazy enough to join us but haven't signed up yet? Yeah I know some think it's insane. And yet others love it?

So have you got what it takes to start at 3pm and ride all night till 3pm the next day?

So are you the "long ride to nowhere because it's there" type or like some of my friends the "you've got to be kidding type?"

What would make you do the event or what would make you miss it?

I'm definitely of the "you have got to be kidding!" variety! I know my limitations and know for a fact I would not be able to stay alert, awake and motivated to ride that distance. Even if my Goose was a more comfortable bike, I know that I would not make it more than about 500kms before bailing.

But my husband is lining up - no doubt alongside Cameron - to do his 23rd ride this year. He loves it - I think it's the mental challenge he enjoys as much as the physical challenge. Good on him - I'll be waiting for him when he gets back - but I won't be in any hurry to join him!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Done 4, plus 1 Southern Cross. Bike currently up for sale so not anxious to put more miles on it but may consider next year with the new one.

I would, but due to budgetary constraints, and upcoming exams - not a chance in heck.

I wont be there this year. You don't have to be crazy as it's not that hard. Have yet to take more than 20 hours to complete one. And that just cruising close-ish to the speed limit in most places.

Were you there last year? Took me 23.25 hours... (but I did have to stop 10 times)

Yes he was there last year. I kept bumping into him and his mates. Yes that's right, we stuck to the speed limit and had no problems averaging 80 kmph. I'm not going to say anymore to that.

Yes was on the black BMW R1100GS riding with a Tiger and a Blackbird. We'd fill the BMW and the Triumph when ever the blackbird needed fuel. Was excellent on HW52 in the dark and wet, sooo glad I've got spotlights.

Heh, it was the other way around for us... the blackbird filled whenever my KTM needed fuel, as he couldn't do double the distance

We were aiming for 20 hours, I think it was the combination of hard course and frequent stops that killed our time... we're not slow riders...

Must rush out and buy spotlights. I fear there is too much to do in too little time.
