I'd just like to publicly thank Chop for taking the time to call me back on the mobile (at his expense) and give me the low down on his Axo prime boots!
Thanks Mate !!!
Firstly I had Axo boxers which for the price lasted really well so Axo was top of the list for me! Alongside Gearne.
I choose the Prime as they look the shit and I'd heard the Gearne crossfires had trouble with the screws coming loose plus they didn't feel quite as supportive in the ankle and where $3-400 or so more. So it was the primes for me after Chops recommendation, even though I couldn't find to many reviews on them via google!
Took my new ones for their first run out the sandpit Sunday!
Ride report.
They look space age with the molded soles etc You don't need a separate booty and they have the rubber bits that fit over your leg at the front to keep the water etc out!
First mistake buckling them up real tight! With my old Axo boxers I had to crank them up, to get them to feel supportive, you don't have too, I found they give you good support just firm even loose!! So for the first half hour they where to tight and stiff. I was thinking bugger can't do the two man race in these! My feet where throbbing and I couldn't change gear to well and I was locking up the rear all the time! I was way out in the forest and I couldn't be bothered goin back to the truck to move my gear lever up a spline! So I had fiddle with the buckles to loosen them a bit, rode a bit, then another couple of notches looser! They where quite loose now but still felt like if i hit a stump they would do the job. It was wet, really wet, so plenty of big puddles and etc to go through.
They where starting to limber up, gear changes coming easier, foot settling into the boot better and not throbbing anymore. So I tightened them a click or two. I read the instructions and it said to run them tightish to get them to fit the foot better and store them done up, to keep the shape (which I'd never done)! Ok nearly an hour on the clock now boots feeling mucho better! Nothing like water and sandy trails to test a pair of boots!
Now feeling bloody good much more firm, good ankle protection, really nice fit (which I think will get even better with a couple more hours in them). I like the double Velcro on the front, the fast start gear change thingy on the rear of the boot works good. Catches work good with a push to click them in rather than having to hammer them in with the other boot, and they didn't pop open even though I'd come to grief and got stuck a couple of times. One stump I hit took my leg back past the rear wheel with the impact, I'm pretty sure I'd have felt some pain with the old boots but nothing in these! Back at the truck slide my foot out and dry socks (except for the sweat), well now I'm really sold!
Overall pretty rapt in the Axo Prime's if they last as well as my old boxers I'll be Happy, but have to do 3 years or so before I can get back to you on that one!
Looks to me like a high tech boot priced really well to get a hold on that section of the market, so buy some now I reckon, good boot!

What about the Alpinestar tech3's? Better boot?
Tech 3's are good. I had them for over a year, lasted pretty well. I think im going for the tech10's next of BTOsports.com. 600 landed is pretty cheap compared to 1k.
i have a pair of fox F3 boots and they're about 6 rides old and starting to already show signs of wear! not too happy.
when those have completely gone i'm getting another pair of gaerne sg10's. can't go past them!
There are 2 different types of tech10's
Gonna go for these most likely. Dunno what the difference is between the $570US tech10
