    War memorial common sense

Infront of the cenotaph in wellington there are 3 new trees planted to replace the 3 trees that over the last year have died.

Now considering the national importance of the site place you would think you would choose trees that reflect the history and culture of the site since they could be there for generations.

The tree decendants of the "lone pine" or turkish defence bunkers on gallipoli which are probably easily available from the large stock of them in aus or from stratford or taradale where memorial trees were planted would be a thought

Perhaps trees from crete, new guinea, passchendale, ypres, the somme, malaya, korea, vietnam or a nz native or even english tree since it was generally our loyalty to mother england that put us in the game. Something significant and reflective of what that site is all about.

But instead they planted genkos, great trees from china, pretty, but its like puting a parking lot in the place of the world trade centres. They just put very little thought into it at all.

As an arborist and small branch on a family tree that was butchered during the wars this just annoys me a bit. Perhaps its something that only I would be bothered about.

It isn't in a motorcycle forum, it's in "Rant & Rave".

    Totally agree Mr Timber.

The fuckwits who made this decision should be given history lesson.

Nothing wrong with Ginko's but not the tree for a memorial for the the Great War.

Right on Timber. Send a copy of your post to the RSA.

3 words, one tree hill! "someone" would complain there ass off about not using native trees and cut them down with a big chainsaw, just to make sure their views outweigh everyone elses
