This is the thing, the OP now has a cop watching out for him (plus whoever else of his Police colleagues he laughed about this with...).
I have some sympathy for the OP, he doesn't come across as the sharpest knife in the drawer, but then again it may just be a generational thing.
There have been times I have been so broke I couldn't pay all the fees on time, maybe not even the same month (or year?). If you choose to do that though, you know the risk and you know the consequences if caught. No good whinging if it all goes pear shaped.
Our hero now has at least one cop actually watching out for him so the risk factor has gone up exponentially. He really does need to make the bike legal.
Or give it a quick and dirty paint job, and steal a different helmet![]()
There is a grey blur, and a green blur. I try to stay on the grey one. - Joey Dunlop
Yeah, but you're different. I saw you ride at the Westpac Ride, you ride with care, skill, and common sense. The last part of that statement seems to be lacking with your mate Metalor...
I'm a contradiction as well. I hold a few degrees, yet I ride a GSXR. I own a Honda as well, yet I'm straight. I don't drink and chase skirt, and yet I'm a biker. Maybe there's something wrong with all these stereotypes, I mean, what are the chances?

It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

You're asking us if we think it's okay to break the law..?
Now you listen to Mom, young fella...
I think that as others have said, you knew full well what you were doing, yet blamed the Cops. If you'd come on here and said you'd been an idiot and got what you deserved and "please everyone, take a lesson from my mistakes," you would have got a different reception.
I've always liked them despite their flaws.. have you thrown any rods lately?
You don't get to be an old dog without learning a few tricks.
Shorai Powersports batteries are very trick!
To all you armchair critics giving this guy a hard time for "not learning" or preaching about "you think it's ok to break the law" or accusing him of wanting a shoulder to cry on... ya might feel better if you remove the carrot from that orifice!Easy for you to say when your bike is up to scratch, and you haven't had tickets for anything, and you've got a bit of money to keep the thing going, and you've never been pulled over by a cop and given a bollocking about some transgression (... assume all that applies to you, right?).
Being a penniless student is a pain in the arse. Every dollar counts, that's why you get a bike in the first place! And a dollar saved using the bike instead of other transport, is another dollar to put towards fixing it up (hence the temptation to keep using it).
Suggestion: go get some more sleep, then clean your eyes out and re-read his post: all he's doing is sharing what happened, and asking advice on a bike purchase. He's quite allowed to feel pissed at getting hundreds of $ of fines... yes, he broke the rules, but so what? Who hasn't? Whatever!
From the lofty heights of your high horse, you probably haven't noticed that Metalor is actually getting the bike sorted! What's really cool is that in spite of these monkeys hijacking his thread giving him crap, not to mention him having fines to pay, he (more or less) ignores it, keeps a positive attitude, and just gets on with things. Also gives the positive followups (eg: the new tyres), and sharing his being pleased about it. That isn't whining at all.
Good luck with it Metalor... I'll buy you a beer next time you're in Welly!![]()
Before I head off to bed, I just had to take a sec to thank everyone who made this little gem of a thread possible. I've laughed, I've cried, I've squirted a little milo from my nose (you get the picture).
Entertainment doesnt get any better than this.If only more folks in Hollywood had the comedic timing and wit that some of you possess.
... now please carry on, I need something to read in the morning ...

Doesn't that mean your fines will just be bigger next time? Seems to me that when you are running out of money you shouldn't be looking for more, creative ways to have it escape your wallet. It's going to sound silly, but have a look at www.sorted.org dot whatever. I can never remember the URL, although my 3 year old can probably find it. Or chat to some friends about budgeting. I feel like a tool everytime I watch it, but Moneyman is actually useful for tips on saving.
You'll enjoy that M50 a lot more when you don't have to worry about where the next tire or service is going to come from. I know. I've got another 6 months of saving before I can afford mine and then I've still got to pass my full![]()
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.
Sucks about getting busted twice but heres the thing. He either stops riding because he cant afford it or he gets a job that will pay for his habit.
I was a student 20 years ago but the basics don't change eg permanently broke, mounting debts etc. Before I went to uni I got a job and saved like a bastard. When at uni I had a part time job and in the breaks I did whatever shit work came my way. At various times I went without food, textbooks and more importantly beer. All to keep the bike on the road.
Don't think that is relevant today? A young guy starting at work did exactly what I did and now has a 250 Ninja all paid for. In fact he has just bought his g/f a MX5 and is on top of his student loan.
