Ah, yes, adventure riding: what you do with the stunts when you get bored with stunting for its own sake.

Does anyone else remember the girl who used to ride her Vespa 50 from Tauranga to uni in Dunedin and back 3 times a year in the early 70s? Nipple pink, it was: she called it "Nippy".

Sorry, Carver, it's all been done, better, before.

Yeah, I was giving only one example. I'm sure that someone who is not a girl could do better. So you girls did?

And then, there is the woman who rode her BSA Bantam 125 from the UK to NZ via land apart from necessary sea crossings, including PNG and Aus north to south via the Centre, to take up her job as nursing supervisor of the maternity ward at Tauranga hospital in the late 1950s.

It's a recent myth that you need an "adventure" bike for adventuring, though there is a respectable argument that riding a Banty any more than 5 kilometres at a time is an adventure in its own right.

And as for my own exploits, suffice it to say that my favourite ever award in a trial was for most artistic get-off. No pics - the photographers were too awe-struck (translate: paralytic with laughter).

i rode a yamaha jog from kaitia to cape reianga via 90 mile beach, then all the way from the cape to orewa in a day.
55kph just about all the way, apart from doing 90 mile beach at high tide.

    nothing hard about it

Have a look at the Scotish Six day Trial,It is well over 1000 kms.
Dont knock it until you have tried it.
Life shouldnt end at the grave well presented but rather, slide in sideways totally worn out yelling "shit that was a great ride!"

I'm not knocking it all, honest! As I said I think Trials bike riders can do awesome things on their bikes and I admire them for it; was just trying to say IMO, Trials and ADV(as we do it) are an Apples v Oranges comparison. On the Scottish 6 Day trial, are the trials bike riders carrying everything they need for 6 days themselves on their bikes with them, except for fuel(they're not!); we could couldn't we? I don't have any problem with what they are doing and would totally agree they are having an adventure too; I just think its a different slant on biking to the adv rides we do, just as I think if we go on a really gnarly track it aint motocross and probably not even close enough to be called full Enduro maybe! Its all valid and all enjoyable and arguably an adventure of sorts for the participants whatever the slant, but IMO just different from what we are doing was all I was trying to say. Would you have wanted to ride a trials bike from Welly to Otorohonga for the KCR last weekend and then do the KCR 2 days and then ride it back to Welly? I wouldn't, just as I wouldn't want to take the DR on a full-on Trials course! Both are great fun but for me they are different even if they are both an adventure for the rider!
    Cheers, Dave

No they don't! (their loss!) You see, its just different, we're real hard men who can operate a bike even high on drugs like caffeine!

    Cheers, Dave
