Dealership warranties on 2nd hand bikes

I also posted this thread here > http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=97883

Are there set procedures dealerships have to follow, honour when selling second hand motorcycles? I did ask about rust to which they replied NO there isn't and since im a noob I didnt think of looking in the gas tank

I bought it last week and has a 3 month warranty but im not sure what the warranty covers.. I did go in wednesday to ask about the tank and they said it was fine.

Gee you might have to scratch that up with a bit of sandpaper and slop some paint on it. Stuff a lint-free rag in the tank first so you don't get shit in the tank.

If it is just surface rust do as Steve suggested and patch it up. If you are a fussy bugger clean it back to metal - treat with a rust killer, fill and paint. There will be a paint shop that will colour mix a spray can for you (check they are petrol resistant first).

Don't feel too bad about your pre-check. I'd say a high percentage of buyers would not remove the gas cap pre purchase.......until now anyway.

Cheers guys.. Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong but I see crap in the tank as a defect. Bikes cant run on grit or chipped paint, bog falling in the tank. Oh and crap in the breather hole falling into the tank.

When you buy goods from a shop or business, you’re protected by the Consumer Guarantees Act
1993 if what you’ve bought turns out to be faulty. The Act says that the goods have to be of
“acceptable quality”, which means they must be fit for their normal purpose, safe, durable, free
from minor defects, and acceptable in finish and appearance.
I gave them a polite email with a photo asking them if this is covered by 3 month warranty. If they say no I will quote the above quote to them. I know I bought a second hand bike but man that gas filler area is rangi ! I went to a dealership so I wouldnt get stung !!!

Ohhhh god, you should have seen my GPX's old fuel tank.
I went through several fuel filters in a fairly short period of time.

    Didn't buy from a dealer.

If they said there was no rust on the bike I say take it back.
