Can someone point me towards some literature on ignition systems on these bikes? Theory or practical, either is fine.
It appears as if it's a flat (i.e. no) advance curve? Any rules regarding vac/centrifugal type advance curves?

Malcolm - Greg has all the shiz on this - there is not a lot to it really....
I understand there is a rudimentary "advance" curve caused by some interaction between the coil and the flywheel. I read something about it years ago.
But if you want to hack, start here ;

"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
"Wow, Great advise there DB."
WTB: Hyosung bikes or going or not.
The ign is flat your bang on there. There used to be a rule about "no ignition curves allowed" for open class but only two or three people knew what it actualy ment so I don't think it was put into this years rule book. I have never come across an advance/retard set up on one of these little engines yet but I would imangin it would make a huge difference to your power band and clutch wear.
