Does anyone know how to bypass the speed limiter (180 kph) on a Jap import Yamaha XJR1200 (1995)? The bike has a cable drive speedo and if you disconnect the cable , the max revs possible is only 6750rpm. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to KB man, thats a interesting way of getting your post counts up.... triple posting, edit then delete those other two threads![]()
The limiter usualy works of the gear box, and with the Suzuki limiters it is easy enuff to sort by adding a diod or something, so I dont see why yours would be any differant.

I've got an XJR1200 (not a Jap import) and a Honda CB-1 (ex-Japan). The Honda's limiter works off the speedo and to get rid of it you have to rewire part of the speedo electronics. Can be done if you know what you're doing but apparently if you're clumsy you can wreck the speedo. I haven't bothered as 180 on the CB-1 is pretty scary. Your XJR may well use a similar method but without dismantling the speedo I couldn't say for sure.

I suppose if you're going to be done for 180 it may as well be 240. At least you'll be able to use the other 3 gears.
People still get done at 240? Damn...Originally Posted by Lou Girardin
Nah, seriously, on my Yamaha FZR I enquired about how to remove the governor and was told that there was something that had to be done to the speedo to fool the speed sensor or something like that. Beyond me, so I'm just upgrading the bike![]()

Na Mike sorry it cant be a similar method as he says that it has a cable drive and when disconected it makes no differance.Originally Posted by MikeL
Yeah as Mike says it is to do with the speedo but also the gear box (maybe not in all) and the way around it is to fool the silly bloody things.Originally Posted by madboy

ARE YOU SURE THAT BIKE WILL EVEN DO MORE THAN 180 WITHOUT THE LIMITER?? JUST KIDDING. THE LAST TIME I SAW A SPEEDO OPERATED LIMITER IT HAD A MAGNET THAT SWEPT PAST A REED SWITH BEHIND THE SPEEDO FACE, IT WOULD THEN DROP THE VOLTAGE TO THE CDI. I THINK WE JUST CLIPPED THE WIRE ON THE REED SWITCHOriginally Posted by RJH57
This sounds similar to what I was told about the CB-1, but I'm not sure the fix was as simple as clipping a wire.Originally Posted by WINJA
