Bit of a must. Only thing is there are quite a few insurance companies around and I have no idea which are good and which aren't. Does anybody have any suggestions as to a decent company for an under 25 rider?

I have heard www.kiwibike.co.nz is good. My bike is worthless so im skipping insurance although will get 3rd party when i get a job.
I would suggest you get third party immediately. Just last weekend we were riding along on a borrowed V-Strom (me on the back). A young guy opened the door of his parked car into the traffic. He knocked us off the bike and on the way down we crashed against the side of the (newish, expensive) car to our right. Pretty much every panel on the left side of the car was damaged. The bike hit the road and scraped everything on its right hand side.
The guy who opened his door didn't have insurance. He now has two insurance companies after him for potentially several thousand dollars worth of damage. He could have spent $100 per year for third party insurance and saved himself all the trouble.
Everyone shoud have third party insurance before they go out on the road.
There is no such thing as bad weather; only inappropriate clothing!
Don't worry im not riding! Bike is out of action for a few weeks and hopefully i find a job before then.

State is the way! I pay about $300 a year for full cover on my ZXR for $6,500.
