That idea works well on a race track. On familar roads, also...

That "notorious" piece of road just got more "notorious".

I havent had a decent look at it yet but from the glimpse i saw (before the ambulance arrived) id say itll be written off .

And to make things worse they had to cut all of my gear off me so they could check me over and see if anythings broken, suspected broken ribs and sprained knee.

The cop that attended the crash said that im lucky to be alive just because of where i finally ended up.

    Sad day for me
Sorry, but I dont give a fuck about your bike- I am just pleased to know that we arent attending the funeral of another KBer, after all the news of dead bikers lately. I do hope that you are insured, and have another toy very very soon. Best of luck with any recuperation mate. I am sorry for your loss. best wishes.

Good that you're not in a pine box. Interesting description of the crash - didn't you see the pothole, how come you couldn't avoid it?

If you're on your learners, and you had (what sounds to me an avoidable crash), then why are you thinking CBR1000?

Ribs suck, the lower they are, the more they hurt when you shit and laugh.

The corner in question is riddled with potholes, i know 5 people who have come off on this particular corner.

One of the people who stopped said the same thing happened to them 12 months ago on the same corner.

The owner of the buisness on the corner said that hes pickin up bikes on a fornightly basis almost.

Im on my restricted with only 6 months to go before i can get my full but i have been riding bikes of all types since i was 13

Glad you're OK. The worst thing is broken ribs can't be fixed with a cast. If you're really sore, occasionally they'll strap you up but it doesn't do much. Hope if heals up pretty quickly.
Sometimes you're going so fast that by the time you see the pothole/possum etc and react, you can't help but clip it (or more often, smash through the centre of it). Probably a good idea to approach 'notorious' corners with a bit more care and a fair deal less speed.
You should write to the district council and get them to fix these potholes!! Or will it take a death for them to actually do something about it?!!

All this "poor you" bullshit is just that - total bullshit.

You knew the corners reputation and yet still managed to fuck it up.

But don't worry - our ACC levies and insurance premiums will take care of all that for you.

So just how many written off bikes are there on your list?

And you still managed to fuck it up? You should definitely leave the big bike for a while yet.

Which particular local authority is responsible for maintenance of that piece of road? If what you are saying is right, these things need to be brought to their attention.

Sorry about your bike and your gear, seems you're OK which is the main thing.

I am looking through the corners, but my periferial vision is usually good enought to pick up variations on/with the road surface in time to dodge....other thoughts?

I'm glad you have insurance so you'll be able to replace the bike. Heal well and quickly.

Why is it that we can have a bunch of motorcyclists flocking to endow with sympathy, an incident of such complete ineptitude that, had it been committed by a car driver would have resulted in nothing but scorn?

    Are we that fucking shallow?

Maybe not shallow but possibly a little one sided in our views...

And car drivers dont usually fall off in potholes either, but had the car been to blame for sparkies accident, then Scorn would have been well earned. As it is, Sparky probably gave the pothole and himself enough scorn to make up for all of us.

However I do recall the young girl/MC accident at Turangi a while back, and the posts that generated, and I do think we have a pretty strong "Tactless and insensitive" faction in our midst...

Great to see our NZ roads are in such great condition NOT. Nothing worse than hitting a pot hole coming around a corner and having no chance of avoiding it. Just glad that you came out of it reasonably ok and here's hoping that the council do something with that pothole before someone else comes to grief from it.
    Heel up fast.

The OP knows 5 other people who have come off on that same corner.

One would think that anyone with an ounce of intelligence would approach that corner with a degree of caution.
