    Good riding around Auckland?

Anyone got some good rides around Auckland that does not involve riding 50km down the motorway first?
Route 16 getting a bit boring.
Need twisties, some tight stuff and some a bit faster
coro loops good but a bit boring when 140kms is motorway riding

The ride down to Piha is pretty good.

Apparently they have the go ahead for a Cafe dow there now.

    Nice ride. Some tight bends.

Piha is very quite good when there isn't any traffi. You could sneak in a ride early in the tomorrow morning like from 8 ish and you'll be good.

I could see that it could get busy tomorrow due to the fine weather that we'll be having!

The road to Waiuku, then out to the heads or Pukekohe. Turn left or right off SH16 and there's lots of cool twisty roads with not much traffic.

Yeah Piha and the scenic drive are good as is the road out to Huia, I'm not sure if it's still like (been a few years since last out there) that but the section after Little Huia to Whatipu was not sealed, fun bit of road on a dual purpose though.

Also instead of going past Helensville on Highway 16, Turn off to the right just before Kumeu and take the old north road that cuts thru the Riverhead forest and comes out at Kaukapakapa.

Instead of going all the way to Piha, turn off and go down to karekare and go back up via lone kauri rd.
    Twisties galore!!!!!

A bit of fun in the wet and it does not get a lot of sun in the winter, so can be a bit of a handfull if you pour on the gas too early...fun, fun!

did it today, big smiles and a couple of pucker moments.

Oh yeah, not a lot of people know about it (untill now I guess)

Watch out for cars/4wd's going the other way!!!!
Seen a couple of head to heads down there.

    Stage one:

Pack your bike well, take some good woollen undies etc. Head south. When you get to Wellington, get on the ferry, disembark at Picton.

    Stage two:
    Don't go back.
